Job Description
Summary/Objective:
The D365 F&O Manufacturing Functional Expert serves as the functional owner and subject-matter expert for Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (F&O), with a primary focus on manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for ensuring that D365 F&O is configured, operated, and evolved in a way that accurately supports real‑world manufacturing processes and business outcomes.
The emphasis of this role is deep functional understanding of D365 manufacturing capabilities—including how the system is used on the shop floor, in planning, and in costing—not software development or technical customization. The individual will work effectively in a customized D365 environment, understanding functional impacts and tradeoffs, while partnering with developers and integrators who implement code changes.
Administrative responsibilities such as environment management, user/security administration, and lifecycle coordination are expected, but they are supporting responsibilities, not the primary focus of the role.
The role will also include limited administrative and functional support for Dynamics 365 Sales & Marketing (CRM), secondary to manufacturing responsibilities.
Essential Functions:
Manufacturing Functional Ownership
- Act as the functional subject matter expert for D365 F&O manufacturing modules, ensuring alignment between system configuration and manufacturing processes.
Own and support functional configuration across manufacturing domains, including:
- Production orders, BOMs, and routes
- Work centers, calendars, and resource constraints
- Master planning parameters and scheduling behavior
- Shop floor control and production reporting
- Inventory and warehouse interactions with production
- Manufacturing costing impacts and financial integration
- Troubleshoot and diagnose manufacturing‑related functional and configuration issues, identifying root causes and recommending solutions.
- Advise business stakeholders on D365 manufacturing capabilities, limitations, and best‑practice tradeoffs.
- Work closely with Manufacturing Operations, Engineering, Finance, IT, and external partners to support continuous improvement.
System Administration & Operational Support
- Manage and maintain D365 F&O environments (Production, Tier‑2 Sandbox, Dev/Test), including coordination of refreshes, updates, and deployments.
- Maintain and manage security roles, permissions, and user access.
- Monitor system health, batch jobs, and operational stability.
- Manage interaction with Microsoft Lifecycle Services (LCS).
- Serve as the first point of escalation for functional and system‑related issues.
Cross‑Functional & User Support
- Provide limited administrative and functional support for Dynamics 365 Sales & Marketing (CRM).
- Support users by interpreting system behavior and data (including navigating Power BI dashboards for business context, not report development).
- Assist and train users on D365 F&O functionality related to manufacturing and operations.
- Maintain confidentiality with regard to information being processed, stored, or accessed within enterprise systems.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Required Competencies & Experience-

- Production
- Inventory Management
- Master Planning
- Shop Floor Control
- Manufacturing‑related financial integration (basic GL/AP/AR)
- Proven ability to understand and support manufacturing processes through system configuration rather than custom development.
Platform & Operational Knowledge
- Experience managing D365 F&O environments and system operations (no hands‑on development required).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Lifecycle Services (LCS).
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps for change tracking and coordination (functional visibility only; no CI/CD or development responsibility).
- Comfort operating in a customized D365 environment and collaborating with developers and implementation partners.
