Job Description

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • New product design including requirements analysis, design, validation, documentation, implementation, and ongoing support
  • Sustaining engineering support to operations

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Design market leading components, subsystems, and products for the marine industry using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Prepare design documentation for new/existing components - drawings, engineering specifications, standard operating procedures, and test reports
  • Root cause and remedy product related production, quality, and supply issues as required
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement programs with a focus on utilizing the ECR/ECN process
  • Analyze, develop, and implement appropriate design and/or manufacturing changes to improve the product and operational efficiency
  • Create and manage Bill of Materials
  • Coordinate with external suppliers to document existing and develop new products
  • Develop project plans, coordinate activities and report on project status
  • Assist in the development of manufacturing tools, equipment, and processes as required
  • Support company annual Hi-5 goals
  • Miscellaneous Product Development projects or other duties as assigned
  • Practice good safety habits and works to improve safety culture; wears appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Qualifications

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree or Technologist Diploma
  • 3-5 years related experience in a design related capacity within a manufacturing environment
  • Proficient with SolidWorks, PDM, and AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of production processes including sheet metal fabrication, welding, machining, and casting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required for communication with manufacturing personnel, customers, and suppliers
  • Familiar with ERP systems to control engineering Bills of Materials
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal direction
  • Marine or in the transportation industry familiarity is an asset
  • Working knowledge of industry standards and safety regulations such as ABYC, Transport Canada, and US Coast Guard is an asset

Additional Information

Hours of work: Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Work Conditions

  • Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Occasional lifting of moderately heavy objects may be required.
  • Overtime as required.
