Job Description
This role is critical in ensuring all systems — including HVAC, electrical distribution, life safety, and BMS — are fully tested, verified, and handed over in line with project specifications and industry standards. Acting as the bridge between installation and completion, the Commissioning Manager will ensure a smooth, compliant, and defect-free transition to the client.
The role can be based in a number of areas in Ireland with preferences around Galway, Leitrim or Dublin.
Qualifications
Lead the development and implementation of project commissioning strategies and plans
Review MEP designs to ensure systems are fully commissionable, identifying requirements for testing, access, and control
Manage and coordinate commissioning programmes in line with overall project timelines
Oversee specialist commissioning subcontractors (e.g. water treatment, air balancing, BMS), ensuring quality and accuracy
Lead and coordinate witnessing of all plant and system testing with clients, consultants, and third-party validators
Manage Integrated Systems Testing (IST), ensuring all systems operate effectively together
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve system performance issues during commissioning phases
Provide regular progress reports, tracking commissioning status, outstanding activities, and certification
Liaise closely with clients, consultants, and project teams, providing technical assurance throughout
Chair commissioning and progress meetings as required
Oversee delivery of technical training to client teams to support system operation and handover
Ensure all commissioning documentation is complete, accurate, and included within O&M manuals
Capture lessons learned to support continuous improvement across future projects
Additional Information
Minimum 8 years’ experience in commissioning or a senior project engineering role within building services (M&E)
HNC/HND or Degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline
Strong knowledge of commissioning processes across HVAC, electrical, and life safety systems
Excellent understanding of CIBSE Commissioning Codes and BSRIA guidelines
Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
Excellent problem-solving and technical troubleshooting ability
Strong communication skills with the ability to produce clear technical reports
Commercial awareness of project delivery and the impact of commissioning on programme and cost
Membership of the Commissioning Specialists Association (CSA) at Grade 4 or above
Experience delivering commissioning on large-scale or complex projects (e.g. Data Centres, Pharmaceutical, Industrial)
Experience managing integrated systems testing (IST)
Experience leading multi-disciplinary commissioning teams
This role reports to the Operations Director or Project Manager and involves managing internal commissioning engineers, technicians, and specialist subcontractors.
Given the project-based nature of the work carried out by K&M, you will be expected to work on varying sites and/or travel to varying sites across the country in the normal course of your work.
