Job Description

This position is responsible for day-to-day coordination and supervision of floor staff to ensure visitors encounter quality, consistent, engaging, and entertaining experiences, and exhibits. The Floor Coordinator provides structure, coaching and position clarity for Education team members that focus on delivering visitor engagement of the highest quality. The Coordinator will effectively respond to changes in schedule of all education team members and volunteers when applicable. Kentucky Science Center seeks a candidate that can connect to our team in many areas, demonstrate effective leadership and be an efficient and organized multi-tasker who can manage operation of multiple experiences such as daily floor experiences.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
DAILY TEAM COORDINATION AND SUPERVISION
•    Provide daily schedules for floor staff and help ensure that Maker Place is open, Demos are performed, Walkups are open, and the floor is inviting and welcoming.
•    Respond to call-ins, staffing changes, scheduling changes, and unexpected events on the floor in a way that supports the daily staff as well as the visitor experience. 
•    Ensure that safety protocols are consistently followed for storage and use of Education supplies. 
•    Reinforce and support a training model for visitor facilitation and methodology training that can be scaled into larger education department operation as well as institution wide opportunities.
•    Work closely with VE Scheduling, Camps, and Onsite Programs to ensure that those programs are getting the support they need from floor staff. 

PROGRAM FACILIATION AND OVERSIGHT
•    Provide support for daily floor experience for all visitors, ensuring quality and safety in all floor experience education programs and activities. This includes all Education team interactions with visitors, walk-up activities, and public demonstrations. 
•    Work with scheduled staff members to do ongoing training, professional development, and provide opportunities for professional growth of Education team members assigned to floor experience. Assist Manager of Visitor Engagement with oversight of entire PT Educator team.
•    Contribute to project and planning teams whenever public programs are a component of such projects, such as the annual lineup of Adult Series programs, and partner-focused Science Celebrations. 
•    Responsible for maintenance of visitor experience programming using best practices in the discipline integrated with Science Center’s mission to deliver safe, energetic, and fun activities for life-long learners and their families.

EVALUATION AND OBSERVATION
•    Implement quality control initiatives to ensure consistency in visitor interaction and effectiveness of Education staff, volunteer, and docent training. This includes utilizing an established matrix for evaluation of all visitor engagement experiences and of Education Staff and Volunteers. 
•    Represent and act as a daily constant for KSC’s scheduled floor staff.
•    Support Visitor Experience team with integration into programs and experiences and other needs of the Visitor Experience team.
•    Other duties as assigned

Essential Requirements
•    Understanding of Science Center’s mission, purpose and strategic plan.
•    Excellent communication and organizational skills; presentation, facilitation, interpretation and public speaking.  
•    Must be able to demonstrate effective leadership, team collaboration and coaching skills over a diverse team.
•    Able to provide proper direction for team-tasks and projects; assess, monitor and review progress and accuracy of work completed
•    Ability to organize and assist with program development, fabrication and facilitation.
•    Ability to act with tact and diplomacy, dealing effectively with outside community partners as well as internally with KSC staff. 
•    Ability to motivate and dynamically communicate with diverse audiences using excellent public speaking skills. 
•    Ability to employ functional leadership and management skills with a large and diverse team. 
•    Ability to write clearly in communication with staff and public.
•    Ability to work effectively with people of different ages, experiences, and economic levels.
•    Ability to troubleshoot- spot potential problems before they arise.
•    Ability to work creatively and collaboratively with limited resources; effective problem-solver.
•    Ability to work nights and weekends
 

Additional Information

Compensation and Benefits    
    $40,000 annually, Full time non-exempt position, 40 hours per week.
