Job Description

This position will be responsible for departmental support and strengthen the spectrum of nonprofit marketing, communications, and membership sales and retention. This position includes opportunities to be creative, have fun, be challenged, and support strategic objectives. This position calls for a versatile self-starter with solid skills who can process information quickly, work efficiently, and attend to the smallest details of work quality. Duties include but are not limited to data entry and logistical support for the Membership & Marketing Manager in addition to supporting the Communications Manager with social media idea generation and content creation. The candidate will also be called upon to assist with marketing and/or outreach efforts. The ideal applicant will be open to flexible and frequently shifting job responsibilities in a fast-paced environment with occasional public-facing opportunities. 

Marketing/Communications
•    Help develop and implement marketing and communications campaigns for programs, events, and membership sales and retention strategies.
•    Research social media strategies at comparable institutions and consider how those strategies might be implemented by Kentucky Science Center.
•    Generate social media content ideas and assist the Communications Manager in posting social media content across various platforms.
•    Assist in analyzing and reporting social media metrics.
•    Maintain a calendar of upcoming conventions and/or group travel to the Louisville area and assist with marketing and communications efforts to attract those visitors.
•    Represent Kentucky Science Center at outreach events and other functions as appropriate.
•    Assist with press appearances.
•    Keep various community listing forums updated.
•    Assist in website management.
•    Monitor and report regularly on website analytics and take corrective action when needed. 
•    Pioneer the organization’s social media video program through Instagram Reels and TikTok.

Membership
•    Act as a contact for current and prospective members, answering membership questions via email and/or phone. 
•    Maintain and distribute marketing and membership materials.
•    Assist with membership data entry. 
•    Act as a secondary liaison with the Louisville Zoo for Dual Memberships. 
•    Assist in coordination and implementation of Member events.
 

Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or journalism preferred.
•    At least 2 years’ experience in marketing and/or communications business environment. 
•    Experience with local tourism and/or non-profits is a plus. 
•    Self-starter: demonstrates initiative and can work with little supervision.
•    Ability to plan, develop, organize, and implement projects with efficiency.
•    Ability to work in a courteous and effective manner with the public and Science Center staff.
•    Ability to meet agreed upon deadlines and follow directions.
•    Basic understanding of digital photography.
•    Desire understand and reach out to diverse communities.
•    Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
 

Additional Information

•    Full time, non-exempt, 40 hours per week.
