Job Description

The Guest Relations Specialist will help oversee the floor of Kentucky Science Center’s flagship facility. The Guest Relations Team (GRT) is responsible for the guest’s experience while visiting Kentucky Science Center, serving as an ambassador and host for guests and ensuring their safety while providing an engaged and participatory experience. The GRT will have enough knowledge of programs and exhibits to ensure guests know how to interact with exhibits and learn about programmatic opportunities. The GRT will be able to talk about the benefits of membership and reciprocal programs. The GRT will help facilitate general upkeep of exhibits and experience and be able to call for support when needed. The GRT will work closely with managers of various departments to keep open communication of needs and goals.

Responsibilities:  

•    Making rounds and checking on guests
•    Ensures visitors have fun and participatory experiences 
•    Ensures excellent communication with guests upon visits
•    Stays informed of Science Center operations and effectively communicates information to guests
•    Knowledgeable about memberships, education, and programmatic opportunities
•    Communicate and work as a team with co-workers and/or volunteers to ensure smooth operation 
•    Assist Guest Relations Team
•    Work alongside Guest Relations Coordinator to learn their role in preparation for career advancement
•    Receive information and feedback from the Guest Relations Team and use it to create content to be shared in Guest Relations meetings and bi-weekly newsletters
•    Work with management teams to facilitate lunch and break schedules to ensure constant coverage on the floor
•    Watch for potential hazards and repair needs, follow up on the removal of hazards and repair needs, and maintain proper staging
•    Facilitating emergency procedures 
•    Will be present in the Flagship Facility most Saturdays and Sundays and evening events
•    Daily preparation and general responsibilities
•    Perform other duties as assigned
 

Qualifications

•    Experience in a retail / attraction / hospitality / museum setting
•    Extraordinary problem solving and leadership skills, exercise good judgement, the ability to be self-directed, organized, excellent guest service, dynamic presentation skills, accurate and detail oriented, with the ability to handle fast paced environment in a friendly and professional manner
•    Experience with computer systems, including Microsoft Office suite
•    Creative imagination and vision to promote the Science Center’s mission, goals and strategic direction to multiple and diverse audiences.
•    Ability to plan, organize, and manage a wide range of diverse activities to meet goals and priorities, and to organize files and projects
•    Ability to multitask and meet project deadlines
•    Ability to identify and solve problems independently
•    Ability to be detail-oriented in a distracting and changing environment, meet deadlines and perform more than one task at a time
•    Ability to work creatively within limited resources

Compensation and Benefits    

•    Full time non-exempt, 40 hours per week.
•    Starting between $15-$17 per hour
