Job Description

The Education Specialist is responsible for the delivery of a variety of high-energy, interactive education programs and experiences in the Kentucky Science Center flagship facility and throughout the commonwealth. This role will act as the facilitation lead to ensure a successful program and engaging visitor experience. The Education Specialist will support the Visitor Experience Program Team with staff trainings, seasonal programming facilitation, program logistics and evaluation. This position will also work to enhance and elevate our visitor experiences by contributing critical feedback to the program and/or content development process. The Education Specialist will strive to ensure overall quality and mission is upheld in all programmatic offerings.  A qualified candidate should be experienced, creative, and enthusiastic about working with lifelong learners.

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Engage a diversified public audience with a positive professional, energetic GLOWING attitude.
     
  • Facilitate fun, hands-on educational programs including exhibit facilitation, demonstrations, walk up activities, and specialized programming or classes. 
     
  • Display a passion for lifelong learning in STEAM Education.
     
  • Facilitate engaging, hands-on experiences in flagship experiences, family events and offsite programming, including traveling assembly programs, digital learning programs or traveling education programs to schools or organizations. 
     
  • Participate and assist in development and leadership of educator training sessions. 
     
  • Serve as a model example of interaction with visitors, participation in team meetings and a representative of the Visitor Experience team. 
     
  • Foster professional development as a mentor to educators on the Visitor Experience team. 
     
  • Encourage a positive work environment that cultivates collaboration, teamwork, and creativity. 
     
  • Present educational activities at special events, media/marketing promotions, member events, and community events. 
     
  • Practice and enforce safety and emergency policies and procedures. Maintain a clean and safe environment for program participants and instructional staff in all Science Center classrooms, labs and storage areas in cooperation with other team members. 
     
  • Communicate and work in a team manner with co-workers and volunteers to ensure a smooth operation.
     
  • Perform other tasks, as assigned.
     
  • Report to work in a timely manner and maintain a strict time schedule.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • 2 years’ experience in some capacity involving direct public interface on a regular basis.
     
  • Satisfactory work record in youth programs, volunteer, or related program. 
     
  • Demonstrated experience in program design, implementation, and evaluation. 
     
  • Excellent communication and public interaction skills 
     
  • Experience with program leadership and oversight of part-time and/or volunteer staff. 
     
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule that routinely includes weekends and occasional evening hours. 
     
  • Ability to ensure proper use of science equipment, multimedia, technology, and safety procedures, after receiving proper training. 
     
  • Ability to develop effective programs to engage participants of diverse needs and skills.

Compensation and Benefits     

  • Salary Compensation range $30,000-$33,000 annually.
     
  • Full-time, non-exempt position, working 40 hours per week.
