Job Description

The Quality Specialist supports the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance with FAA Part 21, FAA Part 145, AS9100, and ISO 9001 requirements.

This role performs hands-on inspection of FAA-regulated hardware, manages document control, administers calibration records, maintains quality records, and supports structured continuous improvement initiatives. The position is split approximately 50% between Aviation Services & Aftermarket (ASA/QMS) and 50% Commercial Distribution Center (CDC) operations.

The Quality Specialist reports to the Logistics Engineering Operations Manager and works cross-functionally with Value Stream Leaders and operational teams to ensure regulatory compliance, operational accuracy, and continuous process improvement.

FAA Hardware Inspection & Product Conformity

  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of FAA-regulated hardware and components.
  • Conduct detailed visual inspections for damage, workmanship, labeling accuracy, and conformity to approved data.
  • Perform dimensional verification using calibrated precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, dial indicators, gauge blocks, and thread/pin gauges.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and approved technical data to verify compliance.
  • Review supplier documentation (e.g., Certificates of Conformance, FAA Form 8130-3) for completeness and regulatory accuracy.

Document Control & Quality Management System (QMS) Support

  • Support compliance with FAA Part 21, Part 145, AS9100, and ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Ensure procedures and operations align with aviation regulatory standards.
  • Maintain accurate quality records and controlled documentation within IQS.
  • Ensure current document revisions are available at point of use and obsolete documents are properly removed and archived.
  • Maintain traceability and retention of quality documentation.
  • Support audit readiness for internal, customer, FAA, AS9100, and ISO audits.
  • Assist in preparation for regulatory inspections and surveillance activities.

Calibration & Measurement System Control

  • Administer and maintain the calibration database and recall tracking system.
  • Verify calibration status of measuring equipment prior to use.
  • Update and maintain calibration records for regulated tools.
  • Coordinate documentation with third-party calibration providers.
  • Support audit readiness related to measurement system compliance.

Quality Records & Compliance Support

  • Manage and monitor customer complaints within CRM systems (transitioning to Salesforce).
  • Review frontline complaints and operational discrepancies (e.g., picking, packing, labeling, shipping errors).
  • Partner with Value Stream Leaders and SMEs to investigate issues.
  • Identify root causes and analyze complaint trends and KPIs.
  • Maintain CAPA, training, change-control, and complaint records.
  • Support corrective and preventive actions to reduce recurring issues.

CDC Continuous Improvement & System Support

  • Coordinate CRM tracking and quality KPI reporting
  • Analyze quality and operational data to identify trends and recurring issues.
  • Recommend process, documentation, or labeling improvements as needed.
  • Conduct process confirmation activities to ensure procedural adherence.
  • Reinforce preventive measures within daily operations.
  • Support initiatives that reduce complaint volume and strengthen compliance.

Qualifications

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in a technical or manufacturing discipline preferred but not required.
  • 3–6 years of hands-on inspection experience in a manufacturing or regulated environment.
  • Experience performing dimensional inspections using precision measurement tools.
  • Aerospace, FAA repair station, or regulated hardware inspection experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience reading technical drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with document control systems (IQS or similar) preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems and Microsoft Office.
  • ASQ CQT or equivalent inspection certification is a plus but not required.

Technical Competencies:

  • Proficiency in the use of precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, gauge blocks, and related inspection tools. 
  • Working knowledge of measurement traceability and calibration principles.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and geometric tolerances.
  • Foundational understanding of root cause analysis and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes.
  • Strong documentation discipline with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Frequent use of precision measuring and inspection equipment.
  • Regular standing and walking in office and operational environments.
  • Occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds.
  • Visual acuity sufficient for detailed inspection and verification tasks.

Additional Information

The U.S. based hourly rate for this role is between $75,000-80,000. Within the range, individual pay is determined based on several factors, including, but not limited to, work experience and job knowledge, complexity of the role, job location, etc.
