Kanadevia Inova are hiring an O&M Shift Leader for our Dublin Waste to Energy Facility, located on the Poolbeg peninsula in Dublin, Ireland.

As an O&M Shift Leader, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Energy-from-Waste facility during your assigned shift, ensuring the plant continues to operate in accordance with HSEQ requirements, Irish environmental regulations, production targets and contractual obligations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the assigned operating shift, providing direct supervision and clear direction to Operators and other support personnel to ensure the continued safe, reliable and efficient operation of all plant processes, systems and equipment. Act as the senior management representative during nights, weekends and holidays when senior management is not on site, taking appropriate operational decisions and escalating issues where required.

• Promote and maintain a strong HSEQ culture, ensuring all shift personnel understand and comply with company policies, procedures, operating standards and applicable Irish HSEQ and environmental requirements. Lead regular safety meetings, reinforce safe working practices, maintain high standards of housekeeping and ensure the plant remains a safe, clean and orderly working environment.

• Ensure operational procedures, training and emergency arrangements are effectively maintained, ensuring Operators are appropriately trained and competent for their roles and follow established procedures during normal and emergency situations. Monitor plant performance, understand equipment interlocks, alarms, trips and control loops, and respond quickly and effectively to operational issues and emergencies using sound judgement.

• Maintain effective operational control and reporting, ensuring daily shift logs, operator logs, system check sheets and other operational records are completed accurately and promptly. Prepare comprehensive event-based reports when required, raise maintenance work requests where plant or equipment requires attention, and ensure relevant operational issues are communicated effectively to the wider O&M and management teams.

• Lead, develop and support the shift team, providing clear instructions, coaching and technical guidance while promoting teamwork, accountability and continuous improvement. Conduct performance reviews for Operators, provide regular feedback on development and performance, support HSE inspections, audits and assessments, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of plant operations and team capability.

• Relevant engineering or technical qualification, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering desirable but not essential where significant relevant operational experience is demonstrated.

• Minimum five years’ experience in an Energy-from-Waste, power generation or similar industrial plant environment, with proven knowledge of power plant equipment, systems and processes. Experience in mass-burn, waste-fired or fossil-fuel plant environments would be advantageous.

• Previous experience in a Shift Leader, Shift Team Leader or senior operational position, ideally with two to three years' experience at Shift Leader level, with responsibility for leading operators and maintaining safe and reliable plant operation.

• Strong practical understanding of plant operations, equipment interlocks, alarms, trips and control loops, together with the ability to diagnose operational problems, identify root causes and make sound, timely decisions during both routine operations and emergency situations.

• Demonstrable leadership, communication and people-management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team, provide clear instruction, manage conflict, work effectively under pressure and build constructive relationships. Fluent English and a strong understanding of HSEQ standards, procedures and requirements are essential.
