Job Description

Join our tax team as a Seasonal Tax Preparer and sharpen your skills while staying connected to the industry year-round. This role offers flexibility, with work during peak seasons and the potential to become a recurring seasonal team member annually. 

As a Tax Preparer, you will primarily review tax returns based on your experience and may provide other basic accounting services, depending on your background. Responsibilities:  

  • Prepare individual federal and state income tax returns. 

  • Verify past tax forms for accuracy. 

  • Calculate and invoice form preparation fees per firm policy as returns are prepared. 

  • Frequently interface with client personnel to review and apply accounting and tax principles. 

  • Contact clients by phone or email to gather necessary information. 

  • Review files to ensure proper signatures, necessary supporting documentation, and compliance with filing due dates. 

  • Obtain proper filing extensions when necessary. 

  • Perform detailed reviews on tax returns, research, and compliance work with an emphasis on calculations, accounting theory, and tax law compliance (depending on experience). 

  • Perform all work in compliance with the firm’s policies and procedures. 

  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality, personal and ethical standards. 

  • Maintain technical tax skills through on-the-job training and participation in internal tax training sessions. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications

Experience and Qualifications 

  • 2- or 4-year accounting degree or equivalent experience preferred but not required. 

  • 1-2+ years of tax return review experience preferred but not required. 

  • CPA, JD, or EA license preferred but not required. 

  • Prior experience with a public accounting and/or professional services firm preferred. 

  • Strong analytical skills to enable effective decision-making. 

  • Solid written and oral communication skills. 

  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a PTIN and continuing tax education. 

Additional Information

Compensation: $25/hour as an advanced draw on monthly commissions, plus an incentive compensation plan of 19% of the monthly tax preparation fees collected.
