Join our team as a Staff Accountant working on our internal firm books and contribute to our mission of delivering precise financial management.
We are seeking a dedicated Staff Accountant to join our team at either our Antioch or Lake Zurich office. While this position offers potential for remote work, it is not fully remote. As a detail-oriented and motivated individual, you will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring timely reporting, and contributing to the smooth operation of our accounting processes.
As a Staff Accountant - Internal Firm Bookkeeper, you will have the opportunity to:
- Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements, for 10 entities.
- Maintain and report on receivables aging, handling collections, and providing weekly updates to the COO.
- Organize and maintain our accounting filing system.
- Manage the chart of accounts, ensuring precision and consistency.
- Post accruals accurately to reflect financial transactions.
- Review the accuracy of financial data from various sources such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and credit cards.
- Coordinate the completion of balance sheet account analysis.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Reconcile bank accounts and other financial accounts, addressing discrepancies.
- Facilitate the processing of checks.
- Maintain subsidiary records for fixed assets, loan balances, and prepaid expenses.
- Reconcile billable expenses and manage credit card accounts.
- Prepare and file annual IRS Forms 1099.
- Reconcile progress billings for one entity.
- Prepare sales tax returns for one entity.
- Manage the renewal of property/casualty and malpractice insurance.
- Ensure the timely processing of financial statements.
- Generate monthly practice management reports as needed.
- Assist in the preparation and processing of payroll.
- Contribute to the annual budget review and preparation.
- Embrace additional responsibilities and special projects assigned by the COO.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, you will need:
- A genuine belief in the importance of details and a commitment to maintaining accuracy.
- 5+ years of bookkeeping experience, demonstrating a strong foundation in accounting principles.
- Experience with payroll processing.
- A self-starter mindset with the ability to work autonomously and take ownership of your responsibilities.
- Analytical skills to effectively research and resolve accounting issues.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
- Proficiency in using bookkeeping software and tools, including QuickBooks Online and Excel. Familiarity with CRM systems is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective interactions in person and via video calls.
