About the Role
The Medical Advisor – Virtual Care & Clinical Services is responsible for delivering evidence-based virtual healthcare consultations within a managed care framework, ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centred care aligned to clinical governance standards and best practice protocols.
The role combines direct patient care with broader contributions to clinical quality, healthcare innovation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement within the virtual care environment.
Working within a multidisciplinary and technology-enabled healthcare ecosystem, the successful candidate will contribute to improving patient outcomes, enhancing healthcare accessibility, and supporting the organisation’s strategic virtual care objectives.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Deliver high-quality virtual consultations across acute, chronic, preventative, and wellness-related healthcare needs
- Apply evidence-based clinical decision-making within managed care and virtual healthcare frameworks
- Support chronic disease management and continuity-of-care initiatives
- Ensure adherence to clinical governance standards, treatment protocols, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain accurate and compliant clinical documentation and digital healthcare records
- Identify and appropriately escalate clinical risks and patient safety concerns
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and protocol optimisation
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary clinical, operational, and technology teams to enhance service delivery
- Contribute to healthcare innovation and the ongoing evolution of virtual care services
- Support positive patient experiences through empathetic, patient-centred engagement
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- MBChB or equivalent recognised medical qualification
- Independent registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner
- Minimum 5 years’ post-community service clinical experience
- Strong clinical decision-making capability and patient safety orientation
- Experience within general practice, family medicine, emergency medicine, internal medicine, primary healthcare, or a related field
- Proficiency in digital healthcare systems and technology-enabled healthcare delivery
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Advantageous Experience
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:
- Managed care or medical schemes
- Telemedicine or virtual healthcare delivery
- Digital health environments
- Chronic disease management programmes
- Clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives
- Healthcare analytics or outcomes-based care models
