About the Team

The SMSF Specialist Team supports clients managing their compliance and advisory in relation to their Self-Managed Superannuation Funds (SMSF’s). We are a national team with deep experience in administration, compliance, and strategic legislative advice in relation to all rules and regulations that apply to SMSF’s.

Job Description

This role is ideal for an experienced Assistant Manager ready to take the next step in their career, or an established Manager seeking a new opportunity within a growing specialist practice.

Your Opportunity

Due to continued growth, we’re seeking a Manager to join our SMSF Specialist Team in Melbourne, Sydney or Parramatta.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the workflow and performance of a dedicated SMSF portfolio.
  • Lead the review of compliance files, reporting deliverables, and audit outcomes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, external auditors, the ATO, and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic technical advice on superannuation and taxation rules.
  • Lead and contribute to complex tax and accounting compliance and advisory engagements.
  • Drive internal training initiatives and represent the team at client events and industry forums.
  • Manage billing, profitability, and internal risk procedures.
  • Mentor and coach junior team members, fostering a culture of learning and excellence.
  • Contribute to business development and growth initiatives within the SMSF service line
  • Manage a portfolio of SMSF clients, ensuring the timely delivery of financial statements, tax returns and compliance obligations.
  • Review SMSF workpapers, compliance files and client deliverables to ensure technical accuracy and quality.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, external auditors, legal advisers, the ATO and internal stakeholders.
  • Lead and mentor a team of SMSF professionals, providing technical guidance and coaching.
  • Drive workflow management, lodgement performance and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes through technology, automation and AI solutions.
  • Assist in business development activities, including networking, referrals and client presentations.
  • Support national SMSF projects and contribute to thought leadership within the business.
  • Manage billing, profitability, risk management and engagement compliance requirements.

Your Experience

To be successful, you will bring:

  • 3+ years' experience managing a portfolio of SMSF clients within a mid-tier, large accounting firm, or professional services environment.
  • Experience reviewing SMSF financial statements and tax returns.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of SMSF legislation and compliance.
  • Experience with Class Super (highly desirable).
  • Experience managing workflow and delivering outcomes through onshore and/or offshore teams
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • A commitment to professional development and client service excellence.
  • Full working rights in Australia.

Qualifications

  •  CA, CPA in progress or equivalent professional qualification.
