Job Description

We have multiple roles for highly skilled Spatial Data Scientist / Analyst / Modellers to join our Planning and Infrastructure Economics team. The ideal candidate brings strong technical capability in GIS, Python, and R, combined with experience in spatial analytics, web technologies, and applied AI (including large language models or agentic/vibe coding approaches).

We currently have a range of exciting, nationally significant engagements and opportunities including:

  • Many of Australia’s largest and most complex transport projects
  • Renewable/clean energy projects and energy transition initiatives
  • Socially impactful projects and reform initiatives in health, social & affordable housing, education and justice
  • Significant property transactions and precinct planning and development activities

 

Your opportunity

We are seeking Advanced Data Analysts / Modellers across Senior Consultant and Manager levels.

As a member of our high-performing team, you will:

  • Design and implement scalable spatial and economic data models to support infrastructure and planning analysis.
  • Conduct advanced spatial, statistical, and economic analysis using GIS, Python, R, and SQL to generate actionable insights.
  • Develop robust demand forecasting models across transport, land use, social infrastructure and energy systems to inform planning and investment decisions.
  • Build and deploy spatial tools and applications (e.g. web apps, dashboards, APIs) to support investment, policy evaluation, and planning outcomes.
  • Integrate datasets across land use, transport, energy systems, demographics, and economics to support scenario testing and decision making.
  • Apply AI techniques, including large language models and agentic coding approaches, to streamline workflows, automate analysis, and enhance insight generation.
  • Support infrastructure business cases and benefits realisation by quantifying economic, social, and spatial impacts.
  • Work within multidisciplinary teams, including planners, transport specialists, energy analysts, and economists, to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Communicate insights clearly through maps, models, dashboards, and written outputs tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Stay current with emerging practices across spatial analytics, infrastructure economics, demand forecasting, and smart cities.

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience working with spatial data and GIS platforms (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS, PostGIS).
  • Strong programming capability in Python and/or R, with experience handling large and complex datasets.
  • Experience developing demand forecasting models (e.g. transport demand, land use forecasting, energy demand forecasting) or similar analytical frameworks.
  • Experience, or a demonstrated interest in, working across multiple domains such as planning, transport, energy, and infrastructure economics.
  • Familiarity with Land Use and Transport Interaction (LUTI) models, transport demand models, energy system modelling, or similar approaches is highly regarded.
  • Experience developing spatial tools or applications using web technologies (e.g. JavaScript, APIs, Shiny, or similar frameworks).
  • Demonstrated experience applying AI or machine learning, ideally including large language models or agent-based or agentic workflows.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to structure complex, multidisciplinary problems.
  • Excellent communication and visual storytelling skills, particularly using spatial outputs and economic narratives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Spatial Data Science, Geoinformatics, Engineering, Economics, Urban Planning, Computer Science, or a related field.
