Associate Director | Governance & Risk Consulting | Gov / Infrastructure / Healthcare
- Full-time
Job Description
Our Governance, Risk and Assurance (GRA) team partners with clients across government, healthcare and infrastructure to deliver tangible outcomes on complex transformation and assurance programs. We support organisations navigating increasing regulatory, operational and public accountability expectations, helping them strengthen governance, uplift risk and controls, and deliver confidence to stakeholders.
Our team brings deep expertise across internal audit, risk and controls advisory, risk-based assurance, contract and vendor management, major project assurance and performance monitoring, with a strong focus on supporting the implementation of strategic outcomes in highly regulated and public-facing environments.
Your Opportunity
As an Associate Director in our GRA team, you will play a key leadership role in delivering assurance and risk engagements across government departments, health organisations, and major infrastructure programs.
Your role will include:
- Leading and overseeing internal audit and risk management engagements for public sector, healthcare and infrastructure clients
- Managing multiple concurrent projects while providing advanced technical risk, controls and assurance advice
- Leading senior stakeholder engagement, including executives, boards, audit and risk committees, and public sector governance forums
- Developing and reviewing risk-based assurance plans, internal audit programs and continuous monitoring frameworks
- Overseeing the end-to-end delivery of client engagements, ensuring high-quality outcomes across governance, risk and internal audit
- Providing people leadership by coaching and developing high‑performing teams across consulting, internal audit and assurance disciplines
- Supporting practice management and business development, including proposals, thought leadership and sector-aligned client solutions
- Collaborating across KPMG’s broader Government, Health and Infrastructure practices to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary outcomes
- Supporting clients to implement sustainable, practical risk and governance improvements, not just reports
How Are You Extraordinary?
You bring strong internal audit and risk capability, combined with the confidence to lead in complex, regulated environments.
You are:
- A trusted advisor who can translate technical risk and assurance issues into clear, practical insights for senior stakeholders
- Comfortable operating in government, healthcare or infrastructure settings, where accountability, regulation and public value are critical
- A collaborative, people-focused leader who is passionate about developing teams and growing future leaders
- Commercially aware, with experience identifying and shaping new assurance and internal audit opportunities
- Confident contributing to proposals, audit plans, case studies and sector-specific assurance solutions
Your Experience
We are particularly interested in candidates with backgrounds in internal audit, risk management and/or assurance who have worked within or alongside government, healthcare or infrastructure organisations.
To be successful, your experience may include:
- Prior experience in internal audit, risk management, assurance or risk advisory, ideally within public sector, health or infrastructure environments
- Experience delivering or overseeing risk-based internal audit programs, controls reviews, governance reviews or assurance activities
- Strong understanding of governance frameworks, risk management, internal controls and assurance methodologies
- Proven ability to manage and deliver work across a portfolio of clients or large, complex organisations
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including experience working with senior executives, boards, audit and risk committees
- A collaborative mindset and experience working on both short- and long-term assurance and transformation initiatives
- A tertiary qualification is required. Professional certifications such as CIA, CA or CPA are highly regarded
- We also welcome candidates from aligned backgrounds such as engineering, project management, healthcare operations, infrastructure delivery, data analytics or technology, where this experience has been applied to risk, assurance or internal audit contexts
