About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Manager or Senior Manager with strong technical accounting capability and deep sector experience across the energy industry. This role will support a diverse portfolio of clients operating across generation, retail, and trading markets. You’ll lead complex engagements, advise on high‑judgement accounting matters, and work closely with partners and clients on emerging issues in one of the most dynamic sectors.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and review technical accounting assessments across a broad range of energy sector topics.
- Manage audit and advisory engagements involving complex financial instruments, valuations, and market‑linked models.
- Provide guidance on accounting for renewable energy products, environmental schemes, and market‑based instruments.
- Review and interpret contracts including, leases, supply agreements, executory contracts, and derivative arrangements (including Power purchase agreements).
- Oversee financial reporting implications for major energy transactions and new asset developments.
- Mentor and develop junior team members and contribute to sector knowledge capture.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including valuation, tax, and risk specialists.
Required Experience & Skill Set
Energy Sector Experience
Candidates must have experience in one or more of the following:
- Electricity generation (coal, gas, renewables, thermal, hybrid assets).
- Energy retailing, customer contracts, and pricing models.
- Energy trading and risk management functions.
Derivative & Financial Instrument Expertise
- Comfort working with a wide range of derivative products across Level 1 to Level 3 valuation hierarchy.
- Strong experience with Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), including fair value modelling and embedded derivatives.
Complex Modelling & Impairment
- Experience working with complex impairment models involving external market price curves, discount rates, demand assumptions, capacity factors, etc.
- Ability to challenge management modelling and external expert reports.
Environmental Products & Scheme Accounting
- Knowledge of accounting treatment, measurement, and classification for:
- Renewable Energy Certificates / LGCs
- ACCUs and carbon units
- Other scheme‑related environmental products
- Understanding of how these interact with derivative, inventory, or intangible classifications.
Contract Interpretation & Technical Judgement
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Lease agreements
- Executory contracts
- Derivatives and structured energy contracts
- Capability to assess whether contracts fall within AASB 16, AASB 9, or remain executory.
General Technical Accounting Foundation
- Working knowledge of core accounting areas including PPE, payables, provisions, revenue, and financial statement disclosures.
- Experience writing or reviewing technical accounting papers.
