Job Description
Position Overview:
Every member of the Team & Family at KIPP KC plays a critical role in ensuring our students are on the path toward college, career, and beyond. Our educators are passionate advocates for our students and families, working tirelessly to connect them with access to opportunity for lives of power and choice. As a physical education and health teacher, you will deliver exceptional instruction and assess student growth. You are dedicated to constant learning and proactively provide academic and cultural support to your school and team. You are deeply committed to educational equity, building relationships with students and families so they are safe, seen, heard, and loved.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Delivery and Assessment
Develop or internalize year-long Missouri State standards-based (or other curriculum-based), backwards-planned unit plans and lesson plans that meet all students’ learning needs
Use assessment data to modify short and long-term plans in order to promote all students’ academic performance
Embrace and incorporate feedback in the spirit of constant improvement
Maintain accurate records, grade book, and data tracking systems
Deliver comprehensive lessons rooted in the Missouri Grade-Level Expectations (GLEs), ensuring high school students master health concepts (e.g., nutrition, mental health), digital literacy (e.g., coding, cybersecurity), and the biomechanics of various sports.
Differentiated Skill Application: Utilize a "Model-Lead-Observe" approach to tailor instruction for varying physical and technical abilities, providing modified athletic drills for sports and tiered project pathways for technology to ensure all students meet proficiency.
Data-Driven Feedback Loops: Implement regular formative assessments—such as digital performance logs, heart-rate monitoring data, and technical troubleshooting labs—to provide immediate, actionable feedback on student progress and physical growth.
Cross-Functional Real-World Learning: Facilitate interdisciplinary projects that bridge the three subjects, such as using performance-tracking software (Technology) to analyze athletic output (Sports) and its subsequent impact on long-term cardiovascular wellness (Health).
Academic and Cultural Support
Assume personal responsibility for student achievement
Collaborate with content and grade-level teams to promote an environment of critical thinking and academic rigor
Establish and maintain working relationships with students and families based on trust and respect
Participate in the daily functions of the school such as morning, lunch, and afternoon supervisory duties
Attend critical school events such as staff meetings, open houses, and student-led parent conferences
Meet professional obligations including timeliness and consistency in meeting deadlines

Health and Wellness
Manage a semester-long leaderboard that tracks team performance across various athletic disciplines, fostering a culture of healthy rivalry, grit, and collective achievement.
Utilize intra-squad tournaments to teach KIPP’s core values, emphasizing sportsmanship, humility in victory, and resilience in the face of competitive challenges.

Engage in weekly coaching cycles and data meetings to refine the balance between technical skill instruction and the execution of unit-based championship events.
Lead the planning of all-school field days and semester-end competitions, celebrating student progress in both FitnessGram benchmarks and team-based sports.
Ensure all unit and semester competitions are differentiated and accessible, allowing students of all physical abilities to contribute to their team’s success and meet personal fitness standards.
Real World Learning
Deliver high-quality, rigorous instruction directly connected to authentic, real-world learning experiences that promote college persistence, career exploration, and workforce readiness for all KIPPsters.
Lead and facilitate transformative student experiences, including class-connected projects, professional mentorships, internships, and shadowing opportunities that bridge the classroom and the community.
Teach a minimum of one to two core courses explicitly aligned with KIPP KC’s Real-World Learning initiatives, consistently integrating applied learning and interdisciplinary cognitive skills into daily instruction.
Actively collaborate with students, staff, and regional industry partners to design meaningful learning experiences that provide students with professional exposure and measurable real-world outcomes.
Organize and lead quarterly RWL Showcases at each grade level, providing a platform for KIPPsters to demonstrate their mastery, present their projects to community partners, and celebrate applied learning growth.
Use student performance data and feedback from industry partners to continuously refine RWL experiences, ensuring they meet KIPP KC’s standards for academic excellence and 21st-century skill development.
Additional Duties (Applicable to Course and Grade Level)
Facilitate evidence-based Health lessons that empower students to make informed decisions regarding nutrition, mental wellness, and personal safety, aligned with Missouri’s Grade Level Expectations (GLEs).
Design and implement personalized Strength and Conditioning programs that utilize physiological principles to improve student-athlete performance, focusing on proper form, injury prevention, and long-term physical literacy.
Oversee competitive Athletics and team sports modules, leveraging physical activity to teach high-level leadership, collaboration, and the KIPP KC values of grit and integrity.
Lead Dance instruction that explores a variety of genres and cultural traditions, focusing on choreography, rhythmic accuracy, and the use of movement as a vehicle for creative storytelling.
Coordinate school-wide showcases and athletic exhibitions where students demonstrate mastery of complex movement patterns and artistic choreography for community partners and families.
Integrate foundational knowledge of human anatomy and kinesiology into daily movement labs, helping students understand the "why" behind physical training and peak performance.
Utilize fitness-tracking technology and performance data to help students set, monitor, and achieve personalized wellness goals, mirroring professional-grade athletic training environments.
Establish partnerships with Kansas City health professionals, fitness experts, and dance companies to provide students with professional mentorships and exposure to careers in sports medicine and the performing arts.
