Job Description
Position Overview
The Director of Student Recruitment & Enrollment (DSRE) is responsible for improving and implementing the strategy for the team’s work on student recruitment, enrollment, and enrollment compliance. As the team leader, the Director of Student Recruitment & Enrollment plays a critical role in realizing our mission of providing all students within KIPP Philadelphia Public Schools (KPPS) with an excellent education that allows them to pursue the paths they chose by overseeing KPPS’ student recruitment and enrollment strategy and processes. The DSRE will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and partner with the Regional and School Operations, Marketing & Communications, and Family Engagement Teams to execute our Student Recruitment and Enrollment strategy.
To be successful in this role, the Director of Student Recruitment & Enrollment brings a track record for designing and implementing successful recruitment and enrollment strategies; and experience building and maintaining relationships with community members and partners. The Director of Student Recruitment & Enrollment should be comfortable working in an environment that requires you to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines, while never losing sight of the overarching goals and desired outcomes. The DSRE must always have a working understanding of KIPP Philadelphia’s enrollment progress, and actively make strategic decisions based on what the data is showing. The DSRE must be available to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends depending on event coordination duties.
This role is ideal for a data informed systems thinker with a customer service orientation that possesses a growth mindset, is passionate about KPPS’ mission, and thrives in fast-paced, collaborative environments.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy Improvement and Implementation (15%)
- Lead the improvement and implementation of a regional strategy for student recruitment and enrollment, ensuring full enrollment of 100% of KIPP Philadelphia Public Schools throughout the year.
- Create and implement a regional student recruitment strategy plan which includes enrollment targets, measurements, and an emphasis on online/social media outreach, and community partner outreach.
- Define metrics, set targets, and track progress against recruitment and enrollment goals.
- Develop and update standard operating procedures for student recruitment and enrollment
- Train and launch student recruitment and enrollment cycles in conjunction with school teams
- Develop and deliver a comprehensive training and support program-including leading on-the-ground efforts around family and community engagement, canvassing, etc.
- Partner with the Regional and School Operations Teams to oversee execution of information sessions, lottery, and new family orientations.
- Partner with Managing Director of Regional Operations and School Leaders to oversee Operations Leaders’ management of student and family enrollment process from lottery to first day of school.
- Partner with the Managing Director of Regional Operations, Data Team and Compliance Director to oversee data systems management of the enrollment process, facilitate proper compliance of all charter enrollment laws, KIPP Philadelphia Public Schools’ enrollment policies and lottery practices.
Enrollment Systems (25%)
- In partnership with school-based teams, ensures that families are directed to submit accurate applications into Apply Philly Charter enrollment system with KIPP ranked as the student’s #1 choice
- Event planning for enrollment events for families to submit paperwork and learn more about KPPS
- Ensure that every enrollment milestone is executed on time and with fidelity
- Track and analyze all data regarding student recruitment and registration benchmarks and goals
- Manage the preparation for the Apply Philly Charter annual enrollment lottery
- Manage and approve transfer process between KIPP Philadelphia schools
- Utilize enrollment system and Power School (SIS) to ensure fidelity of student information
- Utilize marketing system and other recruitment tracking systems for student recruitment
Accountability Management (20%)
- Progress monitor student recruitment, registration and enrollment goals
- Lead and manage enrollment systems and meetings to ensure school and regional operations teams are planning and executing on recruitment and enrollment deliverables.
Student Recruitment (20%)
- Partner with the marketing and communication team to develop a marketing strategy to recruit students
- Maintain relationships with a portfolio of programs and community organizations to build and sustain partnerships that support student recruitment
Student Transition (10%)
- Develop process for students to transition from elementary to middle (4-5) and middle to high school (8-9) in partnership with the Regional and School based Operations teams
- Create and facilitate strong cooperation and systems across KIPP Philadelphia schools to optimize feeder patterns and achieve at least 75% Elementary-to-Middle and 50% Middle-to-High School matriculation for our KIPPsters
Individual Development (10%)
- Consistently strive towards continuous improvement in role
- Proactively stay current on most innovative practices in K-12 and Student Recruitment & Enrollment innovative strategies
- Connect with KIPP Foundation training and best practices, incorporating them at local level
Qualifications
- 5+ years' work experience in project management
- Experience in school operations, enrollment management, systems management or business operations
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent organizational, planning and implementation skills. Always think multiple steps ahead
- Able to work humbly with multiple stakeholders ranging in knowledge and experience with data /tools
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Google Apps
- Understanding of social media, digital strategy, brand management, and culturally responsive communications practices
- Demonstrated success building trust and working effectively across all organizational levels—from school-based staff to senior leadership—while balancing feedback and maintaining alignment to goals
- Ability to solve problems, manage ambiguity and multiple priorities inherent in a fast-paced work environment

Preferred skills and qualifications include:
- Experience with managing and entering data with at least 95% accuracy; familiarity with data management systems (PowerSchool, SchoolMint, School Messenger)
- Experience working in nonprofit or education sectors with educationally underserved students

Compensation
- Salary is commensurate with experience. Ranging from $95,000 - $105,000
