Job Description

KIPP Texas is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Manager to lead and support the accounting team in overseeing general accounting functions, corporate card management, and travel expense compliance. This role plays a critical part in safeguarding KIPP’s financial resources by ensuring accuracy, adherence to US GAAP, and strong internal controls. Responsibilities include managing corporate card issuance, monitoring transactions, enforcing compliance, and overseeing reconciliations and reporting. A high level of professional skepticism and attention to detail is essential to verify accuracy and policy adherence.

This role will oversee all accounting tasks such as journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial reporting related to credit card and travel expenditures. The Accounting Manager will drive process improvements, enhance financial controls, and ensure seamless month-end and year-end close processes. Additionally, they will provide leadership by managing team workflows, setting expectations, and ensuring deadlines are met. The Accounting Manager will work closely with cardholders, lead the statewide implementation of Concur Expense and Travel, and collaborate with vendors, procurement specialists, external counsel, accounts payable, FP&A analysts, and compliance teams. 

Based in Houston, Texas, this role follows a hybrid schedule, requiring at least three days in the office. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in stakeholder relations, credit card compliance, financial controls, and team leadership.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Corporate Credit Card Program:

  • Oversee corporate credit card administration, issuance, cancellation, and credit limits.

  • Inspect and examine all credit card and travel transactions to ensure policy compliance.

  • Conduct random audits, resolve discrepancies, and address disputes and fraudulent transactions.

  • Develop, maintain, and enforce corporate credit card controls.

  • Implement process efficiencies and automated controls to enhance compliance and reduce financial risk.

  • Assist the Senior Director of Accounting with additional tasks as needed.

Auditing & Compliance:

  • Perform routine and random audits to ensure financial controls are upheld.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify and mitigate potential financial risks.

  • Ensure adherence to corporate policies, industry regulations, and audit standards.

  • Support external audit processes by providing necessary documentation and analysis.

  • Develop internal controls to prevent fraud and misuse of corporate funds.

Accounting & Financial Reporting:

  • Provide reports, analysis, and support for financial planning and decision-making.

  • Ensure all corporate credit card transactions are accurately recorded and properly allocated.

  • Prepare financial reports for leadership and budget owners, offering insights into financial performance.

  • Assist in financial analysis to identify cost savings and efficiencies.

  • Support the month-end close process and reconciliation of accounts related to corporate expenditures.

Team Management:

  • Oversee workflow and task distribution to ensure efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.

  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance team capabilities.

  • Establish and enforce the best practices for financial management and reporting.

  • Ensure team alignment with company goals and compliance requirements.

  • Foster a collaborative work environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Provide regular coaching, feedback, and training to enhance employee skills and productivity.

Customer Service & Internal Collaboration:

  • Build and maintain relationships with cardholders, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

  • Provide high-level customer service by addressing inquiries and concerns promptly.

  • Work closely with leadership to align financial operations with organizational goals.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum of seven years of experience in Accounting or related financial operations role.

  • Minimum of three years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role.

  • Previous involvement in corporate credit card system upgrades, enhancements, or implementations is preferred.

  • Proficiency in Excel and financial modeling

  • Experience with Concur Expense and Travel and Sage Intacct preferred.
