KIPP NYC currently serves more than 12,000 students and alumni, has a staff of more than 1,000 (8% of whom are alumni), and continues to grow!
Position Overview
KIPP NYC is seeking a forward-thinking Associate Director to drive innovation and excellence in our regional Total Rewards strategy. As part of the KIPP NYC People Operations team, the Associate Director, Total Rewards will design and lead employee education and support to ensure that our employees can maximize all the incredible benefits KIPP NYC has to offer. Reporting to the Senior Director, People Operations, this Associate Director will guide employees, managers, and senior leadership as they navigate our Total Rewards, in addition to overseeing vendor relationships and HR compliance.
This position is based at the KIPP NYC Shared Services Team (SST) office in Midtown Manhattan and requires occasional travel to schools and programs in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Brooklyn

Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Total Rewards
- Lead the employee education on medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and wellness programs during open enrollment, new hire enrollment, and life event changes
- Design and manage leave management policies, serve as the go-to expert for employees and managers regarding leave protocols, eligibility, documentation requirements, and overall process
- Serve as the primary liaison between employees and benefit vendors, providing guidance and resources to empower our employees in their decision making
- Work closely with third-party leave administrators to facilitate accurate and timely processing.
- Oversee compliance with COBRA, FMLA, ERISA, HIPAA, and other regulations while providing employees with necessary compliance-related information
- Partner with Finance to oversee 403(b) plan administration, including audits, 5500 filings, and compliance requirements
Compensation
- Become the regional subject matter expert on our KIPP NYC salary structures, pay bands, and job leveling frameworks to provide transparent communication
- Support market benchmarking and pay equity analyses, with data-driven insights and organizational audits to support the People Team leadership in compensation decisions
- Educate employees on FLSA, pay equity laws, and local & state wage regulations by providing internal and external resources
People Operations
- Maintain high-quality data integrity of employee records, regular reporting, and compliance documentation for all benefits and compensation
- Partner with the Senior Director, People Operations to create innovative strategies for KIPP NYC Total Rewards
- Design best-in-class materials to enhance employee usage of all total rewards programs
- Deliver proactive and technology-forward People Operations support to enhance employee experience
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, People Operations, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in benefits, compensation, or total rewards
- Advanced knowledge of HRIS, benefits platforms, employment laws, and compensation analysis tools
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to effectively convey complex benefits and compensation concepts in a clear, concise, and accessible manner.
- Demonstrated data skills with experience in gap analysis, trend analysis, and compensation studies
- Strong organization and project management skills; attention to detail and accuracy especially in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Demonstrated passion for KIPP NYC's mission, vision, core values, and a commitment to high quality public education

Salary & Benefits
KIPP NYC offers a competitive annual salary ranging from $105,000 - $120,000. Salary ranges at KIPP NYC are standardized based on role level and role function. Individual salaries are determined through a lens of equity, accounting for years of experience relevant to the role and scope of responsibilities, and are benchmarked against others within the same salary band.
