KIPP NYC currently serves more than 12,000 students and alumni, has a staff of more than 1,000 (8% of whom are alumni), and continues to grow!

- Provide coverage and ensure high-quality instruction during the temporary or short-term absence of the Lead Teacher.
- Work with guidance from the Lead Teacher to create a classroom environment that fosters learning and is developmentally appropriate for the students' maturity and interests.

- Utilize a range of instructional techniques and media that align with best practices, specific content expertise, physical space limitations, and the needs of individual students or groups. KIPP NYC will provide coaching, development, and tools for effective implementation.
- Assess student learning with the guidance of the Lead Teacher through ongoing observations, authentic assessments, and formal evaluations. Provide frequent feedback to students, communicate progress to parents, and prepare written progress reports.
Successful associate teachers are able to:
- Collaborate with lead teachers to plan and deliver a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum aligned with Common Core standards.
- Actively seek and apply feedback from team leaders and instructional coaches to enhance their teaching practice.
- Use diagnostic assessment tools regularly to identify each student's learning strengths and needs, supporting targeted intervention and/or acceleration toward academic and leadership goals.
- Take appropriate measures to ensure a safe environment for all students in the classroom and throughout the school.
- Support the administration in enforcing all school policies and rules related to student life and behavior.
- Participate fully in professional development sessions, team meetings, and staff committees as needed.
- Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, and community members.
- Carry out other job-related duties as assigned.
Optional NYS Teaching Certification Track:
The Associate Teacher position is best suited for individuals who are passionate and committed to education and interested in teaching as a career. For those who have already decided on teaching as a long-term career path but who do not have any full-time teaching experience, we offer the opportunity for you to enroll in an NYS Teaching Certification pathway program while working as a full-time Associate Teacher.
If not already on an NYS teaching certification track, Associate Teachers may enroll in an MA in Teaching program at Relay Graduate School of Education, which includes recommendations for NYS certification. KIPP NYC fully commits to the growth and development of each Associate Teacher, so should you be interested in becoming a Lead Teacher long-term, our optional Relay Graduate School of Education Track will allow you to take the steps towards obtaining NYS teaching certification.
Please note, that a 2.75 GPA is required to be a matriculated student at Relay Graduate School of Education. However, we will consider a 2.5 or higher on a conditional basis. As a reminder, the certification pathway is optional so GPA should not be a determining factor in deciding to apply to the Associate Teacher role.
