KIPP Delta is part of the nation-wide KIPP non-profit network of 242 college-preparatory, public charter schools educating early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school students. We are excited that KIPP Delta will serve over 1,000 students in Helena and Blytheville, AR in the 2023-2024 school year.

Job Description

At the heart of our work is the belief that educational outcomes should not be determined by family income, race, or zip code. The aim of KIPP Forward is to ensure that college graduation is an option for all KIPP Delta students. All KIPP Forward team members are responsible for teaching students and families early the skills necessary to be successful; understand the admissions and financial aid process; and are supported as they work towards college graduation. Additionally, the KIPP Forward team advocates for college access, greater support for low-income, underrepresented and/or first-generation college students in order to eliminate barriers to college matriculation and graduation. Over 90% of our first three graduating classes have matriculated to college immediately followinghigh school graduation.

The KIPP Forward works to ensure that 100% of KIPP Delta students are prepared to
matriculate to college or a rigorous post-secondary career-training program upon high
school graduation.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Educate students and families on high school and college and career readiness including assisting students in acquiring academic skills and character strengths necessary for successful high school transition and college success.
  • Prepares students and families for the cost of college by building a strategy to increase student and family financial literacy, as well as open college savings account and take advantage of funding opportunities for college.
  • Teach college knowledge to students so that they are better prepared academically, financially, and socio-emotionally to be successful in college.
  • Helps students, their families, and teachers take advantage of extended and summer learning opportunities by developing formal and informal relationships with colleges and community programs, and by supporting the application and financial aid process for these opportunities.
  • Builds student and family knowledge of career options, educational pathways, and professional skills, as well as connects students to career learning opportunities through lessons taught in class, parent workshops, and one-on-one meetings, differentiating when additional support is needed.
  • Supports students interested in applying to boarding school through the testing, application, financial aid, and enrollment process.
  • Holds students accountable to commitments and tracks completion through assigning grades.
  • Maintains communication via calendars and/or digital technology to communicate deadlines, scholarship opportunities, pre-college programs, and other pertinent college preparatory programs.
  • Acts upon a commitment to do “whatever it takes” to ensure each student has a positive and safe school experience every day.
  • Tracks student data including progress towards graduation, attendance at college preparatory visits and trips, and summer program participation.
  • Travel is required for job.

Qualifications

A College and Career Advisor candidate must possess:

  • Strongly believes in the mission of KIPP Delta Public Schools and KIPP Forward
  • Possesses a Bachelor’s degree 
  • Possesses strong organizational skills
  • Has strong project and time management capabilities
  •  Experience working with children in a school, camp, or child-care setting
  • Humility
  • Self-Awareness
  • The ability to receive and act upon adjusting feedback
  • Has prior experience working with students and their families from low-income communities with demonstrable results, preferably as a teacher, college advisor, college admissions counselor, or at an institution of higher education support office
  • Is committed to developing himself/herself professionally through development opportunities, participation in organizations that support college access, and staying current in college access literature and successful teaching practices
  •  A commitment to continually developing the character strengths of grit, zest, optimism, self-control, social intelligence, gratitude, and curiosity in all students and oneself
