Job Description
Position Overview
The Culinary Team provides scratch made, nutritious, and delicious meals to approximately 6,000 students and 300 staff members each day across five main production kitchens and several satellite locations, serving 11 schools in the 2024-2025 school year. The Porter/Kitchen Assistant is responsible for supporting the day to day meal service of the KIPP NYC Culinary Team across multiple sites. This role’s primary function is to assist our Delivery Driver with on-time and safe delivery of hot meals and supplies to our satellite schools. The Porter/Kitchen Assistant will also work on physical projects or other duties as needed across our schools and kitchens, which may include assisting kitchen teams with food prep, service, or cleaning if they are short staffed. The Porter/Kitchen Assistant reports directly to the Culinary Team Director of Operations.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Receive food from multiple kitchens, load into delivery van, and assist in delivering to multiple school locations
- Ensure food is delivered in a timely manner and food maintains a safe temperature
- Deliver dry goods, equipment, and supplies to other locations before and after food delivery
- Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of the delivery van and food storage equipment
- Help serve food as needed at production kitchen sites and delivery locations
- Support in the assembly and delivery of food prep and storage equipment
- Complete cleaning and organization tasks as needed, such as stocking supplies
Qualifications
- Background in delivery service and/or facility maintenance preferred but not required
- NYC Food Handlers License
- Able to lift 50 pounds
- Strong work ethic, proactive and able to accommodate high level of responsibility

- Ability to arrive on-time consistently and assist in upholding a prompt delivery schedule each day and be flexible when necessary

Additional Information
KIPP NYC offers the competitive rate of $18-$20 per hour for the Porter/Kitchen Assistant position. Salary ranges at KIPP NYC are standardized based on role level and role function. Individual salaries are determined through a lens of equity, accounting for years of experience.

This role is based in NYC and will require travel to our schools. Cadence and frequency of travel to schools is determined by your leadership team.
