Job Description

In school year 2022-2023, KIPP Detroit Imani Academy Elementary launched with Kindergarten and has added grades each year; it will, eventually serve students in grades K-5.  The founding team at KIPP Imani has included grade-level teachers, diverse learning teachers, paraprofessionals, and elective teachers. KIPP Imani is also supported by an operations team and student support team to ensure a strong foundation for the school’s continued growth. 

The Operations Manager [OM] is the face of the school and delivers first-class customer service to all constituents in the building, including students, parents, staff, and guests. The OM’s primary responsibilities are to operate a welcoming and efficient main office, to coordinate student enrollment and attendance, and to provide daily support to teachers and the school’s leadership team. Ideal candidates will have an entrepreneurial spirit and desire to develop and grow their impact; successful Operations Managers will have opportunities for promotion to roles on our growing Operations team with increased responsibility, scope, and salary. This is a full-time position that will report to the Director of Operations. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Recruitment, Enrollment, and Attendance

  • Coordinate new student enrollment: assist in canvassing, process incoming leads and applications, send acceptance/waitlist letters, and assist parents with online enrollment

  • Oversee student attendance: Lead process late arrivals, communicate with teachers and school leadership re: student absences, call families of absent students, ensure attendance is accurately logged in student information systems each day, and process early dismissals

  • Maintain complete student records

Office, Facilities, and Supplies

  • Create and maintain a neat, welcoming, and organized office environment

  • Welcome parents and visitors, maintain visitor logs, ensure all visitors are accounted for in the building, and respond to visitor & parent requests

  • Answer phones, redirect inquiries as appropriate, and relay messages to staff in a timely manner

  • Provide excellent organization of students, vendors, and correspondence files. 

  • Ensure that copiers/printers are in working order and maintain teacher workroom/supply closet 

  • Ensure that teachers/staff have necessary supplies (which includes processing and fulfilling approved staff supply requests)

  • Order, manage inventory, and process controls for supplies such as classroom materials, technology, and uniforms 

  • Receive, distribute, and prepare incoming/outgoing mail and shipments

School Events, Daily Processes, and Communication

  • Assist with coordination of school events

  • Assist with daily arrival & dismissal process

  • Assist with daily breakfast & lunch distribution and accounting

  • Assist with emergency preparedness tasks and drills

  • Assist with production and distribution of memos & newsletters

  • Coordinate student health services: monitor student health and safety for any unusual/troubling trends, coordinate with site nurse to ensure that students receive appropriate care

Qualifications

The minimum qualification for a Operations Manager are:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university or college (required)

  • At least two years of administrative experience, preferably in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment

  • Experience working in a school setting, urban setting preferred

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and detail orientation

  • Strong typing and technology skills, specifically with Microsoft Office and Google Drive

  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills

  • Evidence of personal initiative and follow through

  • Respect for diversity, cultural competence and self-awareness in relation to self and others

  • A cleared Criminal Records Check

  • All KIPP Michigan staff are required to provide documentation of full COVID-19 vaccination by or their start date (unless approved for medical or religious exemption).

KIPP Michigan is the Educational Service Provider to KIPP Detroit Imani Academy. As such, KIPP Michigan is the employer for this role.
