KIPP KC opened its first school, KIPP Endeavor Academy, in 2007 with approximately 31 fifth grade students. Today, KIPP Kansas City has grown to serve students in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade and is currently educating approximately 1,000 students.

Job Description

This position is responsible for helping create authentic problems which students solve in collaboration with professionals from industry, not-for-profit, or community-based organizations. The position is also responsible for assuring that the Client Connected Project experiences effectively and efficiently help students develop knowledge, skills, attitudes, and work habits so they can move successfully into the world of work. The functions and responsibilities of the CCP Elective Teacher would include program planning, development, and evaluation; related-class instruction; on-the-job instruction and coordination; and guidance and advising on Client Connected Projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

PROGRAM PLANNING, DEVELOPMENT, AND EVALUATION

  • Review the components and requirements to produce a high quality Client Connected Projects program.

  • Effectively use community resources.

  • Develop objectives and responsibilities for the program.

  • Include student self-knowledge exploration and planning.

  • Develop and coordinate projects that encourage nontraditional occupational opportunities.

  • Design the program to include continued improvement and re-evaluation.

  • Work closely with the Real World Learning Manager, KIPP KC Forward team, school counselor(s), SPED department, administrators and staff in the planning, development and evaluation of the program to ensure that decisions are made with equity and inclusion in mind.

RELATED-CLASS INSTRUCTION

  • Lead 1 Client Connected project every 6-8 weeks.

  • Coach students on using the Design Thinking Process to tackle a real-world question.

  • Work with industry professionals and staff to provide practice of required industry-related skills and instruction.

  • Develop curriculum for both general-related and industry-related instruction; link efforts

  • Develop outcome-based, measurable student objectives.

  • Review and evaluate curriculum. Correlate classroom and on-the-job training.

  • Evaluate instruction and curriculum, using input from students, employers/worksite supervisors, and advisory council members.

ON-THE-JOB INSTRUCTION AND COORDINATION

  • Work with Real World Learning Manager to evaluate, select, and establish Client Connected project partners and potential worksites.

  • Reinforce roles and responsibilities for students working in Client connected projects.

  • Create, monitor, and adjust training plans in collaboration with the worksite supervisor

  • and students.

  • Work with a Real World Learning Manager to help worksite supervisors develop teaching techniques for working with students.

  • Monitor student progress through regular weekly check-ins/visits and on-going communication.

  • Seek student evaluation of the worksite.

GUIDANCE AND ADVISING

  • Provide participating students with information about relevant programs and pathways

  • Help students develop essential skills and industry related work habits.

  • Recognize when students need counseling from other staff members and agencies.

  • Help students determine ways to best describe their marketable skills.

  • Write letters of recommendation for students.

RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT

  • Support a cohort of high school students at KIPP High Schools on career pathways, such as college, CTE, and military pathways

  • Lead training and workshops for students on the soft skills necessary to be successful in the work environment

  • Support KIPP Forward and High School special programming including college campus visits, college and career fairs, career knowledge workshops

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Participate in and effectively prepare for weekly one-on-one check-ins with Real World Learning Manager

  • Attend occasionally trainings, regionally and nationally, to stay current on changes in the industry

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Public Relations, Education, or a related field from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum three years of industry related experience.

  • Experience with classroom teaching, project based learning, design thinking, sales, business development, and relationship management preferred.

  • Knowledge of acceptable career and technical education practices and principles.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills.

  • Able to manage complex relationships with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Bilingual or fluent in Spanish preferred, but not required.

  • A current driver license.

  • A willingness to complete the Missouri Class E license exam.

  • Demonstrated ability in implementing long-range and short-term plans.

  • High degree of motivation, responsibility, and confidentiality.

  • Demonstrated ability in compiling, organizing, and analyzing information and data.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Highly collaborative team player.

  • Proficiency with software, such as Word, Google, Salesforce, Outlook, etc.

  • Ability to self-initiate areas of opportunity, make recommendations for improvement, and follow up as necessary to achieve desired results.

Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. Additionally, KIPP KC offers a comprehensive benefits package including health coverage and retirement.
