Job Description

ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Occupational Therapist (OT), under the supervision of the Director of Special Populations, will provide assessment, consultation, and direct occupational therapy to students enrolled in or referred to Special Education. Additionally, the OT will collaborate with the Director to develop intervention and service plans tailored to each student. He/she will work cooperatively with schools and parents to provide an appropriate service plan for students with disabilities throughout the region. This position furthers the mission of KIPP Houston as it helps ensure that all students have the tools and the supportive environment they need to learn.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Performing screenings to assess the needs of students
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and design evidence-based interventions for fine &gross motor skills, self-care, and sensory needs
  • Create reports that describe the results of the assessments, mentioned above
  • Provide a clear interpretation of the assessment to the parents of the student and IEP teams
  • Collaborate with the Director to develop intervention and service plans tailored to each student
  • Conduct small group and individual therapy sessions
  • Schedule and perform therapy needs according to students’ IEPs
  • Collaborate with teachers, families, and other professionals to create impactful IEPs that foster independence and participation
  • Maintaining detailed records relating to student conditions, service plans, therapies, and progress

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master's degree in Occupational Therapy and valid TX OTR/L license
  • Minimum 1+ years occupational therapy experience required
  • Preference for candidates with prior experience in a school environment
  • Strong knowledge of pediatric OT principles and evidence-based interventions
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students, families, and colleagues
