Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Managing Director of Schools is responsible for the overall quality of school programming and is solely focused on ensuring schools have the support they need to deliver excellent instruction. 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Managerial Leadership and Team Development

  • Supervises principals in the creation and implementation of their school plans and priorities and management of schools to regionwide benchmark goals
  • Collaborates with the Chief Academic Officer to deliver effective professional development to principals, including planning and delivering effective PD
  • Supports the development of principals in designing and leveraging their secondary leadership teams and establishing an effective operations partnership
  • Serves as a thought partner to direct reports as they lead their respective teams; coaches and supports direct reports to address their key roles and responsibilities
  • Supervises principals in the creation and implementation of effective professional development opportunities for their staff
  • Supports the development of assistant principals and successor leaders across all schools

Educational Leadership & Academic Support

  • Work with principals to ensure they are implementing their academic strategies (regionwide and school-based), all aspects of the talent strategies, and support principals to implement their school priorities in alignment with KIPP Capital Region academic vision, mission, and strategic plan
  • Collaborates with the Chief Academic Officer and Teaching & Learning Team members to implement academic priorities
  • Ensures that the principals have a clear plan for improvement of instruction and school culture
  • Manages long-term and annual school planning
  • Supports the development of strong school operational systems and processes with a focus on data collection, scheduling, and Special Education programs and services

  • Complies with all charter, federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the NYS Department of Education, Department of Health, and NYS Office of Children and Family Services

  • Please note: frequent travel to different KIPP Capital Region schools is required
  • Pass a Criminal Background Check

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 3+ years of experience as a Principal, preferably in a charter or public school environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, particularly as it relates to building teams, working through others, promoting collaboration, managing conflict, goal setting, and holding people accountable
  • Demonstrated student achievement results from teachers and leaders that he/she manages and coaches
  • Demonstrated success in developing leadership capacity in others
  • Adept at data analysis; ability to extract meaningful insights across school-wide data
  • Deep understanding of appropriate application and differentiation of high-leverage instructional strategies
  • Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.

KIPP Capital Region offers a competitive salary ranging from $128,300 - $141,800.  

Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP Capital Region will evaluate and determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our graded salary scale at point of hire.
