Job Description

Position Overview

At KIPP Capital Region, we believe that strong school operations create the conditions for schools to thrive by ensuring all members of our team and family are welcomed and cared for in clean, safe, financially healthy, and efficiently managed schools. The Operations Fellow co-leads alongside the Director of Operations, implementing and maintaining clear operational systems that allow school leaders and teachers to focus on students, families, and academics, enabling a supportive school environment. The Fellowship is a full-time program that prepares an Operations Fellow to become a Director of Operations (DOO) of KIPP Capital Region Public School.

The Ops Fellowship will encompass three key experiences:

  • Intentional PD and exposure to DOO-level work 
  • A Capstone Project 
  • A 4-week immersion where the Ops Fellow acts as a DOO and temporarily leads a school

Duties/Responsibilities

Fellowship Deliverables and School Immersion

Fellows are placed at an existing KIPP Capital Region school and serve as full-time members of the school's operations team. They engage in operations work at their host school, tackle KIPP Capital Region-wide operations projects, and conduct observations and analysis of operational systems. Fellows are responsible for completing a variety of pre-determined deliverables designed to provide active learning that supports the development of their leadership. 

Evaluation and Feedback

Fellows receive coaching and feedback from their Managing Director of School Operations, the Director of Leadership Development, and host DOO. This support is rooted in their individualized Fellowship Roadmap, which is customized around their strengths and areas of growth.

Operations Leadership Meetings

Fellows meet periodically with DOOs across the region and join the Operations Manager Leadership Development cohort to share and problem solve around current cross-organization operational challenges and to build their network of current leaders. 

Professional Development

Fellows engage in professional development focusing on Team Leadership, Management, and School Leadership. Each session will be led by our experienced group of DOOs and regional operations leaders. Some examples of professional development sessions provided to our Fellows are Connecting with and Leading Teachers; Difficult Conversations; Managing Teams and Groups; Financial Management, and School Transportation, and  Safety.

  • Please note: frequent travel to different KIPP Capital Region schools is required
  • Pass a Criminal Background Check

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University required
  • A minimum of four to six years of professional experience is required
  • Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.
  • Strong project management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • High level of comfort with financial oversight and budgetary tracking. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to think and act strategically
  • Team player with strong interpersonal/influence skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

KIPP Capital Region offers a competitive salary ranging from $85,500 to $94,500 for this exempt role.

Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP Capital Region will evaluate and determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our grade salary scale at point of hire.
