There are 280 KIPP schools in 21 states and the District of Columbia serving more than 175,000 scholars and alumni. KIPP Metro Atlanta currently operates eleven schools including five primary schools, five middle schools and one high school, as well as KIPP Forward which supports students on their journey “to and through” college, career and beyond. The KIPP Metro Atlanta Regional Support Team provides strategic, financial and operational support and oversight to all KIPP Metro Atlanta schools and drives initiatives designed to strengthen the schools’ academic programming and outcomes.
Job Description
Reporting to the Chief Impact Officer, the Managing Director of Development and Engagement leads fundraising, marketing, and communications efforts. This role is vital for long-term sustainable fundraising and branding. The Managing Director will oversee fundraising, build donor relationships, and coordinate fundraising events. They'll also manage the Marketing and Communications function to ensure branding standards are followed, and that effective communications strategies are deployed across the organization.
The Managing Director of Development and Engagement will focus on multi-year fundraising, donor cultivation, grant writing, and corporate partnerships. They'll collaborate with development staff and board members on fundraising strategies and support regional revenue goals. The Managing Director of Development and Engagement will also lead the development and execution of a result-driven marketing and communication plan. Their role will be instrumental in encompassing crafting, developing, implementing, and monitoring both our organizational development and stewardship strategy, as well as our marketing and communications strategy.
As manager of the Marketing and Communications Department, the Managing Director will also ensure internal and external communications efforts to enhance public awareness and trust. They will drive a multi-year strategy that promotes and protects KIPPs brand to increase awareness and understanding of core messages, values, and scholar achievements. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is a relationship and systems builder. This role is very collaborative and relationship driven, and will interact across all functions in the organization to ensure that our strategic direction, branding, design, development, and publications are in harmony with our organizational goals. The person in this role must be an experienced and accomplished fundraising professional and a key advisor and collaborator with internal and external stakeholders in support of the organization's strategic priorities and growth plans.

Management/Leadership 50%
- Lead the KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools’ Development Team and Marketing Team by setting team vision and budget, leading strategic planning and goal setting, gauging capacity, and progress monitoring for the work streams of fundraising, stewardship, as well as marketing and communications.
- Lead cross-functional teams that identifies and expedites overlapping functional work and creates opportunities for collaboration, efficiencies, and greater impact across teams.
- Manage and coach Development & Marketing team members to effectively execute towards the goals and vision of the department.
- Develop, monitor, supervise and manage aspects of the annual regional budget as it relates to development and marketing functions.
- Hold high standards for project management while empowering others to proactively and creatively problem-solve, and model versatility and collaboration for the organization.

- Lead cross-functional team for shared focus and action around development, marketing, and communications
- Develop and implement strategic communications plans that effectively communicate-via the executive office-the Region’s mission and vision, annual priorities, and progress.
- Support direct report(s) with leading meetings with school-based leaders, sharing and building strategies that inform and drive progress
- Jointly responsible for reputational management activities and crisis communications activities
- Supervise development staff’s use of donor database management ensuring accurate records of foundation-based grants, individual giving and corporation donations
- Leverage the development staff to generate queries, reports, exports, and any other collection data as needed
- Create and implement donor stewardship plan by ensuring that the development staff and other regional team members complete activities such as acknowledgement and thank you letters
- Audit grant files regularly to ensure compliance with requirements of the year-end audit and regular reporting
Fundraising and Donor Stewardship 30%
- Design a clear vision for donor stewardship and create systems to ensure that the strategy is executed by all team members who support development
- Support the Chief Impact Officer in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship through correspondence, tours, and research
- Play lead role in the planning and execution of our major fundraising events with a specific focus on interacting with Committee Members, Patrons and Corporate Sponsors
- Work with the Development Committee of the Board of Directors to develop strategies to initiate and meet aggressive fundraising goals for operating support, capital growth, innovation, and scholarship endowment
- Assist the Chief Impact Officer in developing reports to the Board and other agencies, and attend all Board Development Committee Meetings
- Lead stewardship communication to foundations and individual donors (annual report production and distribution, holiday mailing, etc.) and other communications as requested
- Provide the primary logistical and organizational support to keep corporate donors and prospects connected, engaged, and involved
- In collaboration with the team, board, and development committee, build a pipeline of corporate prospects and create a growing, diverse, and active portfolio of corporate partners
- Develop and maintain a portfolio of corporate donors and prospects, creating cultivation and solicitation plans aligning organizational needs with corporation’s philanthropic interests and objectives
- Establish systems and processes to ensure effective and consistent cultivation and stewardship practices
- Lead cultivation and stewardship activities in collaboration with internal and external partners to increase corporate engagement and partnership
- Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization
- Monitor trends in the community and region and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary
Grant Writing and Reporting 20%
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward foundation and corporate supporters
- Develop highly competitive proposals for existing institutional supporters and new prospects
- Monitor proposal deadlines, preparing and editing proposals, and proposal submissions
- Complete thorough reports for all grants on a timely basis
- Manage grants to ensure all are processed in an accurate and timely manner and restricted funds are expended as planned
- Conduct monthly audits to check donor files with finance files to ensure alignment
- Draft letters of interest or inquiries, concept papers, and proposals to ensure a high quality, readable and consistent voice to donors and prospects that reflect KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools’ core values and strategies
- Lead annual application process for state DOE charter school facility grants, start-up implementation grants, and other public funding opportunities on an ad hoc basis
- Work with schools on school-level grant identification and complete proposals as necessary
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree is required and a minimum of seven years of total experience and three years in a managerial role. Preferably at least three years demonstrated successful non-profit fundraising experience.
- Experience working with or in a foundation, particularly in an education-related field, and knowledge of the Atlanta foundation landscape preferred
- Experience working with a marketing and communications team, preferably in a non-profit or education setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook); experience with Raiser's Edge preferred
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and project management skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and to keep long-terms projects on track while flexibly responding to short-term needs
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Proficiency in Development Database Management is preferred
- Exceptional writing skills and very strong verbal communication and presentation skills

Additional Information
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $115,000-$125,000 dependant on prior experience, as well as a benefits package including
