Job Description
ROLE OVERVIEW:
KIPP Texas is looking for a Managing Director of Governance. This role reports to the KIPP Texas’ Chief Advancement Officer (CAO). The Managing Director of Governance will serve as a critical thought partner to the CAO, CEO and Board members (state and regional).The Managing Director of Governance is directly responsible for ensuring the effective execution of KIPP Texas Board meetings (state and regional) through facilitating effective coordination and communication among T2 (KIPP Texas Senior Leadership Team), statewide departments, the seniormost leadership members of the organization (One Song Team), and Board members (state and regional).

- You set the vision, plan, and manage communication to stakeholders
- You support the CAO in developing critical communications, presentations, and correspondence to the Boards (state and regional)
- You provide effective coaching and support to the Director of Governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the CEO and CAO to develop and implement a comprehensive strategic vision for governance that aligns with the KIPP's mission and values
- Provide strategic guidance and support to the Director of Governance, ensuring their professional growth and success in managing board-related activities.
- Coach and mentor the Director of Governance, providing ongoing guidance and development opportunities to enhance their skills in board governance, policy development, and stakeholder engagement.
- Support the development of board members by organizing orientation sessions, providing educational resources, and facilitating professional development opportunities.
- Oversee the development and delivery of all content and logistics related to the boards (state and regional) such as governance processes, compliance, scope and sequence of meetings, agendas, minutes, and materials
- Provide input and recommendations on governance-related initiatives, policies, and procedures to support strategic decision-making.
- In collaboration with senior leadership and Board members identify and coordinate issues of concern for the organization and strategy to be considered by the Board of Directors
- Supports staff liaison(s) to the Governance Work Group Chair, for support in multi-year recruiting, nomination and onboarding and assessment efforts
- Supports staff liaison(s) to the Safety and Security Committee, for support in compliance, scope and sequence of meetings, agendas, minutes, and materials
- Work closely with legal counsel on legal and board matters
- Manage the governance department budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and efficient allocation of resources
- Provide expertise and strategic advice on governance matters, acting as a trusted advisor to the Chief Advancement Officer and executive leadership team (T2)
- Serve as a member One Song (leadership) team for KIPP Texas Public Schools
Qualifications
Skills and Qualifications
- Demonstrated commitment to KIPP Texas mission, vision and values
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of 5 years of experience years of work experience with 2 years of supervisory and management experience, preferably in a large, dynamic, mission-driven organization
- Demonstrated commitment to Equity and Social Justice

- Outstanding leadership skills; a team-builder capable of motivating and developing great teams; relentless pursuit of improvement and driving results through collective achievement
- Experience with educational organizations, non-profit management, and/or non-profit consulting, is preferred
