KIPP Metro Atlanta currently operates eleven KIPP schools including four primary schools, five middle schools, one K-6 school, and one high school, as well as the KIPP Forward program which supports students through college, career, and beyond. 

Job Description

The KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools Support Team is seeking a Primary Literacy Data Specialist to support the creation and maintenance of regional data analysis, reporting, and data use with a specific focus on primary literacy. The Data Specialist will ensure primary literacy data is collected, entered, and maintained in an efficient and accurate manner. The Data Specialist will also analyze and report on school-level and regional data from various sources pertinent to the regional strategic plan around primary literacy initiatives. This role will require a combination of data analysis, stakeholder management, and project management skills. This work is critical for ensuring that such information can be leveraged by instructional leaders, school staff, and the regional team to make student-focused decisions, and that the external reporting of this data is fully accurate. This candidate should have some knowledge and experience with primary literacy and relevant assessments. The Primary Literacy Data Specialist will report directly to the Director of Strategic Projects and work closely with a variety of stakeholders, including school-based staff and members of the regional, shared services team.

 Job Responsibilities:

Data Analysis, Application, and Action 40%

  • Collaborate with the Director of Strategic Projects and Primary Literacy Achievement Director to define regional data analysis and reporting plan and deliverables for primary literacy data.
  • Conduct descriptive and predictive analytical work on outputs from KIPP Metro Atlanta’s primary literacy assessments, curricular measures, and other tools used to measure student progress.
  • Translate data into relevant insights and implications and support stakeholders on interpreting findings. Tailor the complexity of analysis appropriately to audiences with various data literacy skills (e.g., regional team, principals, teachers, Board members, funders, etc.) Anticipate and empathize with stakeholder reactions.
  • Regularly monitor key metrics and report significant changes or trends.
  • Design, implement, and monitor the use of real-time data reports and dashboards (e.g., Tableau reports) to support strategic decisions at the regional and school-level. Seek feedback from teammates and end users to improve the product. Provide training and coaching on using reports and dashboards.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of data analysis and synthesis methods and processes.
  • Assist with mentoring school and organizational leaders on using data to improve instructional planning and drive student achievement.
  • Participate in a cross-functional data/analytics/compliance team that enables and expedites cross-functional gathering, processing, and acting on relevant evidence from all parts of the organization, providing expertise around primary literacy data.

Data Management and Support 40%

  • Responsible for accurate and reliable data creation/entry in primary literacy source systems.
  • Support school staff with conducting data quality audits to ensure collection of accurate and complete data in primary literacy source systems.
  • Collaborate with regional and school leadership teams to implement accountability strategies that motivate staff to collect data.
  • Develop an understanding of KIPP Metro Atlanta’s data model and systems integration processes to enable tool building and data quality investigations.
  • Support the implementation of the regional primary literacy data strategy by leading the set-up, maintenance, and use of all regionally supported data and information systems.
  • Support testing coordinators at school sites on assessment procedures and logistical/technical uses of the data and assessment systems.
  • Assist in documenting the practices, processes, and systems developed for data entry in the primary literacy systems in order to ensure consistent and accurate practices going forward.
  • Encourage the use of various systems and tools (e.g., online testing, creating efficient work flows with data, creating automated solutions for manual processes, etc.) with teachers and school teams by seeking collaboration opportunities to problem-solve issues and support end users.
  • Serve as primary liaison with data and information system vendors to support technical support and troubleshooting issues, escalating support needs from schools to vendor when necessary.
  • Remain up-to-date on applicable features, uses, data reports, etc. available in primary literacy platforms and, when possible, incorporate new features in project plan to disseminate to relevant teams across the regional office and/or schools.
  • Continually assess effectiveness and efficiency of existing data systems and, when necessary, create and implement new systems.

Data Strategy 20%

  • Collaborate with the Director of Strategic Projects and various stakeholders on key metric identification and ensure adequate collection of data and feasibility of analysis. Suggest new lines of analysis and work with colleagues to investigate them.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders in order to encourage questions and surface opportunities to provide support.
  • Seek opportunities to increase stakeholder ability to use data. Help to plan for and lead the training of school and regional staff on using data systems and interpreting data reports related to primary literacy.
  • Work with teammates to analyze current and future data needs of teams and departments.
  • Participate in planning a data strategy to meet needs of stakeholders across the organization.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations around data availability for regional rollups and comparisons.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Minimum of 5+ years relevant experience, preferably in the education or non-profit fields
  • Strong project management skills
  • Robust quantitative and analytical skills, including experience working with large data sets to derive insights
  • Knowledge of the education field, including familiarity with current student data systems and assessments related to primary literacy
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word); advanced skills with Excel
  • Experience with data visualization and dashboard creation tools (i.e., Tableau)
  • Experience training and communicating data and analytics products to audiences of varying levels of expertise
  • Enthusiasm for data, analytics, and data-driven decision making
  • Ability to convey information in a way that is strategic, honest, timely, and respectful
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and advocating on behalf of project goals with external stakeholders

Compensation:

Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. A competitive benefits package will also be offered. 

Travel Requirements:

Occasional local travel between KIPP Metro Atlanta school sites is required.
