Job Description

The Oportunity

KIPP Texas is actively seeking a dynamic and ambitious Senior Director of Academic Health to lead and support the Regional Directors of Academic Health and promote seamless communication between the Chief Academic Officer (CAO), Chief Schools Officer (CSO), and Regional Superintendents (RS). As a KIPP Texas state employee reporting directly to the Chief Schools Officer, the Senior Director of Academic Health will play a pivotal role in driving the strategic growth planning and execution of organizational strategy across KIPP Texas regions, including Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Regional Leadership Teams in each city and serve as a critical thought-partner for both the CSO and RS. They will ensure that strategic decisions are executed flawlessly across KIPP Texas School Support Partners (SSP) departments, and that the Chief Schools Officer is fully equipped to implement academic and cultural strategies across all regions. Additionally, the Senior Director of Academic Health will collaborate with the CAO and CSO to align communication content and structures, further enhancing the success of this important partnership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strong leadership and support to the Regional Directors of Academic Health, assisting them in achieving their objectives within their regions
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among the Chief Academic Officer (CAO), Chief Schools Officer (CSO), and Regional Superintendent (RS), ensuring the efficient implementation of academic initiatives
  • Ensure the effective execution of decisions across the School Support Partners (SSP) departments by working closely with the CSO and Regional Directors of Academic Health
  • Monitor the progress of academic initiatives across KIPP Texas regions, identify areas for improvement, and collaborate with the CAO, CSO, and RS to address them
  • Develop and execute strategies to ensure the success of academic initiatives across the SSP departments, in partnership with Regional Superintendents, Regional Directors of Academic Health, and Shared Leaders
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the academic community to ensure that KIPP Texas remains at the forefront of academic health
  • Develop multi-year strategic plans for the state in partnership with Regional Superintendents and Regional Directors of Academic Health, Shared Leaders, and School Leader Managers, and drive results
  • Collaborate with various teams to ensure effective communication and proactive planning, managing multiple priorities while building strong relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Identify common trends and opportunities across KIPP Texas' four regions and their schools, lead professional development, and monitor progress toward state, regional, and school goals
  • Facilitate and execute key strategic projects assigned by the Chief Schools Officer, evaluating strategic options to promote data-driven decision-making
  • Serve as the primary executor of state academic health initiatives, partnering with Regional Directors of Academic Health to establish instructional leader mentorship programs, school leadership team learning communities, and differentiated school leader development for effective coaching and support

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in education or a related field
  • 3-5+ years of successful experience as a principal in a high-performing school with a student population similar to KIPP Texas
  • Proven leadership skills with a track record of achieving results in a collaborative environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience working in a matrixed organization and navigating complex structures to manage competing priorities
  • Knowledge of academic health trends and best practices
  • Demonstrated success in setting ambitious goals and driving results through data-informed decision-making
  • Proficient in using data to inform instructional planning and practice, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and sharing and analyzing student performance results
  • Outstanding leadership skills with a talent for team-building, motivating, and developing teams to achieve collective success
  • Experience with educational organizations, non-profit management, and/or non-profit consulting is preferred
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Self-directed, results-oriented, and able to demonstrate initiative and follow-through
  • Committed to modeling KIPP’s values at all times and fully dedicated to KIPP Texas' mission
  • Experience in dismantling systems of oppression for students and adults in schools
  • Ability to travel to various locations, travel time approximately 25% - 35%
