KIPP Metro Atlanta currently operates eleven KIPP schools including four primary schools, five middle schools, one K-6 school, and one high school, as well as the KIPP Forward program which supports students through college, career, and beyond. 

Job Description

The Athletics Director is responsible for partnering with internal and external stakeholders to create the strategic vision for athletics programming and its operations so that scholars access the joy associated with being a scholar athlete.  This role will maintain our high school's developmental and competitive athletic programming, athletic branding, creating conditioning programs, and inter-connected athletic opportunities. Duties include community outreach to establish facility partnerships; guiding coaches, scholar-athletes, and families through the NCAA recruitment process; creating and leading professional development for coaches, and supporting the solicitation of athletic sponsorships and fundraising. 

 

Strategic Planning and Execution 40%

  • Responsible for the overall strategic vision for athletics programming and operations for KIPP Atlanta Collegiate  in alignment with KIPP ATL strategic goals and priorities 
  • Oversees the entire high school athletic programs and its branding, operations, and development
  • Creates athletic program pipeline 
  • Serves as the primary bridge between the athletics program and the other extracurricular and programmatic areas for the high school 
  • Reinforces One Promise culture and the mission and vision of the region through school athletics
  • Design appropriate league partnerships and participation
  • Identifying and designing year-round athletic programming 

Community and Family Partnerships 20%

  • Fosters good community relations by promoting high school athletes and keeping social media sites and website updated
  • Solicits sponsorships and initiates fundraising for the school athletic programs in partnership with Regional Director of Athletics 
  • Communicates, in coordination with the Principal and Director of Operations, athletics-related messaging to the media and other internal and external audiences, as appropriate and necessary
  • Collaborates with KIPP Forward, guidance counselors, and coaches to maximize post-secondary opportunities for student-athletes
  • Educates parents and student-athletes on the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) processes and entry requirements

Compliance 10%

  • Oversees compliance with GHSA rules and regulations with respect to athlete eligibility and coaching assignments
  • Coordinates, in collaboration with the Athletics Trainer and Nurse, the education of the coaching staff, student-athletes, and families regarding safety, CPR, and first aid
  • Responsible for maintaining current records regarding student-athlete and coaches documentation
  • Oversees the compliance of student-athlete and coaching documentation
  • Oversees maintenance and safety at school athletic facilities in partnership with Director of Facilities, district partners or local parks and recreation departments
  • Manages the schedule of facility use as it relates to athletic practices, games, and events for KIPP and non-KIPP events/activities

Management/Leaderships 30%

  • Establishes and administers the budget for the Athletics Department
  • In conjunction with school principal, hires athletic department staff and administrative support  
  • Oversees the staffing, orientation, evaluation, coaching, and mentoring of all staff coaches, lay coaches, all members of the athletic department staff, including trainers, and administrative support
  • All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services

Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree; graduate degree preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years professional experience coaching preferably in Atlanta
  • Experience with developing and maintaining productive working relationships with students, families, college coaches, staff, board members, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as a leader and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage the ambiguity and multiple priorities inherent in an entrepreneurial environment

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, and Outlook 
  • Committed to the mission of preparing educationally underserved children for excellent high schools and colleges
  • Must be able to work on practice fields, game fields, and courts
  • Must be available to work evenings/weekends and work to conform to athletic schedules
  • Must be willing to obtain their CAA (Certified Athletic Administrator) certificate from NIAAA

Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. A competitive benefits package will also be offered.
