KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) is a national network of free, open enrollment, college preparatory schools dedicated to preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and in life. There are 280 KIPP schools in 21 states and the District of Columbia serving more than 175,000 scholars and alumni. KIPP Metro Atlanta currently operates eleven KIPP schools including five primary schools, five middle schools, and one high school, as well as KIPP Forward which supports students on their journey “to and through” college. The Support Team provides strategic, financial, and operational support and oversight to all KIPP Metro Atlanta schools and drives initiatives designed to strengthen the schools’ academic programming and outcomes.

Job Description

The Director of Special Projects for Operations will provide management and technical guidance to ensure the success of project objectives and outputs across 11 KIPP ATL schools and the Support Team. Reporting to and working in close consultation with the Chief Operating Officer, this position is charged with coordinating high-priority projects that support both school-based and regional operations that may require but are not limited to budgeting, purchasing, facilities, technology, student recruitment, student data, student transportation, health services, school safety, regulatory compliance, human resource administration, and academic operations support. The Director of Special Projects for Operations is responsible for directly managing the Support Team Office Manager.

As a Director of Special Projects for Operations your core responsibilities include; 

Operations Management

  • Coordinate projects to operationalize the region’s academic and cultural vision.
  • Identifies opportunities for standardization of processes to improve efficiency and enhance the experience of those interacting with the office.
  • Support strategic annual planning and budgeting processes for school and regional operations.
  • Identify and document best practices for school and regional operations and Support Team.
  • Collaborate with teammates across the region to build scalable, region-wide systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Support with Crisis Management
  • Responsible for managing the regional transportation contract.

Project Management

  • Ensure that long- and short-term regional projects are completed on time, at the desired quality level, and within budget.
  • Manage Projects with an internal focus. Create project plans, including deliverables, activities, issue logs, timelines, and budgets. Ensure milestones are successfully met through the management, tracking and reporting of project progress.
  • Support school and regional operations process from RFP, cost analysis to contract award and implementation.
  • Researches issues, determines and facilitates appropriate actions to communicate information or resolve concerns, as needed.
  • Work independently under limited supervision to manage project timeliness and risks.
  • Anticipate needs and suggest solutions.

Administrative Support

  • Administrative and general office duties of a responsible and confidential nature.
  • Provide support to other members of management and department as requested.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments impacting projects.
  • Develops agendas, coordinates logistics, and prepares materials and presentations for meetings.
  • Organizes and preserves meeting materials for future reference.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, communications or a related field, required.
    • Advanced degree preferred.
  • 5 or more years of project management, business operations, executive support, or related experience.
  • Proven work experience as a Project Coordinator or similar role.
  • Experience in project management, from conception to delivery.
  • An ability to prepare and interpret flowcharts, schedules, and step-by-step action plans.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and student data system platforms (e.g., Illuminate, Power School, e-School Plus, Infinite Campus)
  • Strong organizational skills, including multitasking and time management.
  • Strong client-facing and teamwork skills.
  • Familiarity with risk management and quality assurance control.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft and Google applications.
  • PMP / PRINCE2 certification is a plus.

Additional Information

Compensation:

Annual salary range: $74,000 - $120,000.
