KIPP Oklahoma currently educates over 1,000 students and supports hundreds of alumni. Today, the KIPP Oklahoma network consists of KIPP Tulsa Public Charter Schools (grades 5th – 12th) and KIPP OKC Public Schools (grades PreK, Kindergarten and 5th – 8th). KIPP OKC Public Schools is growing one grade per year until they are a full PreK – 8th grade program.

Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW- KIPP Tulsa College Prep and KIPP Tulsa University Prep

The Student Support Interventionist (SSI) is a 10 month, certified position that will provide services for KIPP Tulsa’s middle school and high school. The SSI is responsible for working closely with students, teachers, families, School Leaders, and the Student Support Director, to enhance the school’s ability to meet its academic mission, when learning and performance is impacted by student’s social, emotional, and behavioral health.

Student Support Interventionist focuses on setting clear expectations for behavior, identifying students at risk for behavioral and mental health issues, and providing teachers and schools with the practices and interventions necessary to promote positive behavior.  SSI provides early identification of behavioral, social, and emotional health issues; and develops targeted data- informed behavioral plans to develop the whole child.

Success in this role is measured by: 

  • improving students’ behavioral well-being 
  • improving students’ social/emotional well-being 
  • establishing evidence-based behavioral techniques that are effective in a school setting to promote age-appropriate  behavioral, social and emotional development, 
  • Using the principles of a multi-tiered system (MTSS) of support within the context of a comprehensive school program to provide instruction and interventions matched to student need
  • Adhering to the unique legal and ethical principles of working with students in a school setting 
  • Adhering to the ethical and statutory limits of confidentiality  

Responsibilities include:

  • Assess student’s needs through conducting functional behavior assessments (FBA) 
  • Develop behavior plans based on the student's goals for improving behavior based upon individual student targets and goals
  • Utilize MTSS methods to provide tier 2 and 3 group and individual intervention sessions with students
  • Prepare weekly reports of referrals, intervention sessions, and student progress towards goals 
  • Conduct intervention meetings with families, teachers, and school leadership
  • Conduct professional development with school teams on behavior management skills
  • Collaborate with the school leadership teams to develop social, emotional, and  behavior management system priorities and activities
  • Submits referrals for counseling to mental health agencies 
  • Tracking referrals and follow-up with mental health agencies
  • Serves as a member of the IEP team if a student has a behavior plan included in their IEP.
  • Supports students who are in mental health or emotional crisis

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, or related field
  • Master’s degree preferred in social work, school counseling, education, or related field
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a school setting working in behavioral or mental health
  • Possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and great communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Demonstrated technology skills 
  • Transportation to travel between middle and high school several times a week
