Job Description

The KIPP Texas Relay Residency is a prestigious, paid two-year program designed for new teachers to gain first hand teaching experience and to obtain their masters degree. Any offers for this role are contingent on applicant’s acceptance and enrollment into Relay’s Graduate School of Education. The resident will spend the first year of the program learning from a mentor teacher and gradually increasing their teaching responsibilities before moving into a lead teaching role in the second year of the program.

During both years of the residency, residents receive professional development and coaching from the Relay Graduate School of Education. At the successful conclusion of the two-year residency, residents will have earned their Master of Arts in Teaching and their Texas Teaching Certification.

Residents receive a salary and full benefits both years, in addition to tuition contributions during the first year of the program. Residents are placed in all KIPP Texas schools in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade. Residents are paid $40,000 in their first year of the program and are then paid a starting teacher's salary (based on the regional salary scale) in their second year when they become a lead teacher. Residents will pay a portion of out-of-pocket for tuition and fees for the two-year certification and Master's program although most are able to supplement out-of-pocket costs with grants and/or financial aid.
