In the 2023-24 school year, the KIPP Jacksonville region will be comprised of four schools educating almost 3,000 students, kindergarten through eleventh grade in the North and West sides of Jacksonville, Florida: 

  • KIPP Impact Academy: Kindergarten - 3rd grade, 6th - 8th grade 

  • KIPP VOICE Academy: Kindergarten - 8th grade 

  • KIPP Bessie Coleman Academy: Kindergarten - 8th grade 

  • KIPP Bold City High School: 9th - 11th grade

For the current school year, teachers at KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools work the following hours Monday through Friday and may have occasional meetings or special school events outside of these hours. Hours for teachers and students may vary slightly by school.

  • K-8 Staff: 7:30am - 4:30pm K-8 Students: 8:00am - 3:30pm, Wednesday K-8 dismissal is at 1:30pm 

  • High School Staff: 6:45am - 3:45pm, High School Students: 7:15am - 2:30pm, Wednesday High School dismissal is at 12:30pm. 

Every Wednesday is a student early release day, which allows teachers to participate in weekly professional development and content team meetings. *This doesn’t include Wellness Wednesdays when all staff leave at student dismissal.

Job Description

KIPP Bold City High School seeks an intensive reading teacher for students who need remedial instruction.  The intensive reading teacher provides students an extra layer of support beyond their core ELA instruction.  In addition to whole group instruction, this teacher is responsible for pulling small groups of students, tracking academic progress, and ensuring the students are accessing the blended learning pieces that support their academic growth. In addition, they will prepare lessons that reflect best practices and accommodations for individual differences of students.

Teachers are responsible for creating a positive classroom environment, implementing curriculum, assessing students, collaborating with their team, building relationships with families, and other duties as assigned. Full teacher responsibilities are ultimately outlined by their school leader. 

All teachers at KIPP Bold City High School work from 6:45 a.m.-3:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Student hours are typically from 7:15a.m.-2:30 p.m.. Every Wednesday is a student early release day (12:30 p.m.), allowing for teachers to participate in weekly professional development.

Please note the location of Bold City High School is the McDuff campus located at 1440 McDuff Avenue North. 

OUR CURRENT MODEL
While this teacher might operate outside of the typical model, below is the current model. The model for the high school will change over time as more grade levels are added.  Teachers typically see ~125 students for their core content area. 

Projected content areas offered in ninth grade might include: 

  • Science – biology 

  • English Language Arts or Intensive Reading

  • Math – algebra and geometry 

  • Social Studies – world history 

Projected content areas offered in tenth grade might include: 

  • Science - chemistry

  • English Language Arts or Intensive Reading

  • Math - geometry or algebra II

  • Social Studies - AP World History or U.S History

Potential electives that a teacher could teach might include but is not limited to: Psychology, financial literacy, speech and debate, creative writing, CTE, etc. These electives are selected by the school leader according to student/teacher interest and certification area(s). 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Our current compensation and benefits structure is very competitive and is commensurate with experience. 

  • Our current starting salary for a first-year lead teacher is $50,000

Qualifications

Requirements of an Intensive reading teacher include:

  • Masters Degree 

  • Relevant Florida Teaching Certification or Equivalent (English 6-12)

  • Reading Endorsement reflected on teaching certificate

  • At least one year of teaching experience with a proven track-record of high achievement in a middle school or high school ELA classroom

HIGHLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • ESOL Endorsement (or competency coursework in progress)

  • Master’s in Reading 

  • Two or more years of teaching experience with a proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom in a relevant grade level
