Job Description

The College and Career Advisor (CCA) at KIPP Delta Public Schools (KDPS) is responsible for ensuring matriculation and persistence of every graduating student into a college, university, 2-year certificate, direct to the workforce, or military enlistment program. The CCA will promote the mission of “creating joyful academically excellent schools that prepare students with the skills and confidence to pursue the paths they choose,” by executing on the college and career counseling department’s vision to achieve this goal. The CCA will be a positive contributor to the entire KIPP Forward- College, Career, and Beyond team to ensure strong college and career selection, acceptance, placement, matriculation, and graduation for all KPDS alumni.

KDPS leaders make decisions, conduct difficult conversations, and build highly collaborative teams, all while shaping a joyful organizational culture. The College and Career Advisor is hired, supported, and evaluated by the Director of KIPP Forward. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Helping coordinate and host high school visits and college fairs by college admissions representatives.

  • Directly advising and counseling 40+ seniors and 40+ juniors per year and assist with all aspects of our comprehensive college and career  counseling program.

  • Working with the Director of KIPP Forward to support campus-based alumni programming.

  • Working with the college counseling department, as well as appropriate KDPS grade-level chairs, selected course leaders and/or seminar teachers, and campus-based instructional support leaders, to plan, coordinate and facilitate the Seminar Program across the 9th-12th grade levels.

  • Teaching up to two seminar classes each day during the school year, most likely Senior Seminar section and Junior Seminar courses on the preparation for the college admissions process.

  • Executing student, family, and staff programming as it relates to the areas of Financial Aid and Scholarships, Testing and Preparation, College Visitations Program, and Student Opportunities/Enrichment programs and college counseling parent engagement.
  • Assisting with specific projects and areas as determined by the Director of KIPP Forward and/or Principal (based on expertise and knowledge base of college counselor).
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution

  • At least 1 year of experience in either the high school counseling and/or college admissions field

  • Belief in and commitment to the mission and core value of KIPP Delta Public Schools

  • Openness to giving and receiving frequent feedback

  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress

  • Ability to work urgently in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment

  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and initiatives at once
