Job Description

The KIPP Forward Team supports KIPP Chicago alumni in developing the tools and knowledge needed to attain a college degree. By offering a mix of programs and services designed to reach every student and family — from one-on-one student meetings, to financial aid counseling, academic advising, life skills training, mentoring, college guidance, and more — KIPP Forward provides KIPP Chicago Schools alumni with the tools for success in high school, college, and the competitive world beyond.

Our KIPP Forward team is hiring a High School Transition Advisor for our KIPP One Academy campus, located at 730 N. Pulaski in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the west side. This is a mid-level position for an experienced professional. The High School Transition Advisor is an integral part of the KIPP Forward team; working with our families as the first point of contact on their postsecondary journey. Therefore, the High School Transition Advisor will be an individual who embraces meaningful relationships, structures, improvement and goes above and beyond to ensure our middle school students are supported through the high school transition process. The High School Transition Advisor will report to the Director of High School Transition and will join a growing KIPP Forward team of High School Transition and Alumni Advisors. 

The role of the KIPP One Academy High School Transition Advisor includes, but is not limited to the following responsibilities:  

 

High School Exposure & Choice

  • Conduct 1:1 high school placement meetings with each 8th grade student and parent/guardian regarding high school options and scholarship opportunities
  • Review and submit all high school and scholarship applications for each 8th grade class
  • Use student achievement data to develop a high school application plan that maximizes options for each
  • student 
  • Oversee matriculation to high schools for all 8th grade students 
  • Track and maintain accurate student application data in regional database

College & Career Culture

  • Assist students and families in applying to enrichment and summer programs 
  • Plan and deliver high school placement presentations to staff, students and families
  • Teach KIPP Forward curriculum to 7th and 8th grade KIPP students
  • Collaborate with school staff to foster a postsecondary success culture within the school community

Self & Others 

  • Maintain regular and effective communication with School Leaders, school staff and regional KIPP Forward High School team to collectively support students and families 
  • Collaborate effectively with High School Transition Advisors at other KIPP Chicago schools and the larger KIPP Forward team
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with high school administrators, counselors, admissions staff and community organizations on behalf of KIPP Forward

Qualifications

  • Fluency in oral and written Spanish (required)
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher (required)
  • Minimum of two years experience teaching, advising, or working with families in a middle school, high school or college access setting  (required)
  • Knowledge of Chicago-area high schools (required)
  • Personal initiative and follow through (required)
  • Demonstrated passion for and commitment to the KIPP mission (required)
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities (required)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and evidence of strong follow-through, initiative taking, and interpersonal skills 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Drive Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and Salesforce
  • Flexibility to work some nights and weekends to connect with KIPP alumni/families
  • By 6/1/2023, cleared CPS Background Check
  • By 6/1/2023, documentation of COVID-19 Vaccination or approved medical or religious exemption
