Job Description

This posting is for lead teacher applicants who are interested in joining us in the current (2022-23) school year.

While openings are subject to change, you can apply to this posting if you're interested in any of the following:

  • Elementary Science (K-4)
  • 4th Grade ELA
  • 4th - 9th Grade Math
  • 9th Grade Social Studies

KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools seeks lead teachers for our classrooms in the 2022-23 school year. Teachers are assigned one grade level and are responsible for creating a positive classroom environment, implementing curriculum, assessing students, collaborating with their team, building relationships with families, and other duties as assigned. Full teacher responsibilities are ultimately outlined by their school leader.

OUR CURRENT MODEL

  • Kindergarten and first grade: some lead teachers in our kindergarten or first grade classrooms will work with a certified, novice teacher (fellow) in their classroom. In this co-teaching model, lead teachers share the responsibility and accountability of their classroom with the teaching fellow. Class size is approximately 26 students. The other classrooms in kindergarten and first grade feature a single certified teacher and typically have a paraprofessional for part of the school day. All kindergarten and first grade classrooms are self-contained and are responsible for at least English Language Arts and Math instruction.

  • Second grade: all lead teachers in second grade are self-contained and are responsible for at least English Language Arts and Math instruction. Second grade classrooms also have a paraprofessional for part of the day,  Average class size is approximately 26 students.

  • Third and fourth grade: all lead teachers are departmentalized. A single lead teacher in each classroom is responsible for teaching specific subjects (e.g. only math). Class size is approximately 26 students. In this model, most teachers plan for one subject and teach lessons to multiple cohorts of students.

  • 5th - 8th grade: There are four “home room” teachers on each grade level who are each responsible for teaching a core subject. (For example, there are four teachers on the 8th grade team; each staff member teaches every student on that grade level for their assigned subject.) Class size is typically about 25 students per class. Subjects on each grade level include English Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, and Science.

  • High School: The model for the high school will change over time as more grade levels are added and the model is subject to change. Students have a seven period bell schedule. Core content areas at the high school level include science, history, ELA, and math. High school lead teachers will likely have a homeroom class and teach several classes in their subject area. While this is a typical teaching load, some teaching loads may vary.
