Job Description
Position Overview:
The KIPP Nashville High School Teacher in Residence program, in partnership with Relay Graduate School of Education, is designed specifically for recent college graduates and career changers who are looking for an innovative pathway into the teaching profession. The residency program supports aspiring teachers to internalize the critical mindsets of effective teacher leadership and build a comprehensive toolkit to push student growth and achievement. Residents prepare to step into a Lead Teacher role within one years time through strategic coaching from Resident Advisors, ample practice, and a curriculum built to match classroom experiences.

Observe and co-teach in a Resident Advisor’s classroom- a veteran teacher who serves as your mentor and coach
Progressive and scaffolded teaching responsibilities over the course of the academic year
Residents are positioned as valued members of our school team in order to build deep connections to teammates, students, families and leadership, with the ultimate goal furthering KIPP Nashville’s mission in the communities we serve.
Upon the completion of a successful year, Teachers in Residence will have the opportunity to move into a Lead Teacher position.
Responsibilities of a KIPP Nashville High School Teacher in Residence include, but are not limited to:
Curriculum and Instruction
Adapt and execute a rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum and assess students’ progress
Develop academically rigorous lessons, adapt unit plans, rubrics and assessments
Use data to inform instructional decisions
Provide students with daily feedback on mastery performance in character and academics and plan for individual learning needs
Demonstrate strong pedagogy
Commitment to School and Classroom Culture
Work collaboratively with your school team and those across KIPP Nashville
Help maintain school-wide culture that best fits the needs of our students, teachers and families
Attend and participate in all staff meetings and communicate openly with staff
Develop positive rapport with students
Create and foster a positive and calm learning environment
Enforce, uphold, and exhibit school’s values, student management policies and culture
Family Engagement
Establish and maintain strong communication lines with all parents and share progress
Be available for open houses, parent teacher conferences and other events involving parents
Make oneself available to students, parents and other staff members
Growth Mindset
Demonstrate commitment to professional growth as a teacher
Pursue challenging professional goals
Willing to offer support and receive constructive feedback from colleagues in order to create a professional working atmosphere that is conducive to change and improvement
Participate in school-wide and individual professional development, including pre-service training over the summer and weekly during the academic year (held during school hours)
Qualifications
Desired Experience & Qualifications
Commitment to obtain a Tennessee teacher license
At minimum 2.75 undergraduate GPA and eligibility to enroll in the Relay Graduate School of Education
Commitment to KIPP Nashville’s mission
Commitment to working with students from educationally under-resourced communities
Pass Criminal Background Check
Experience working with students from educationally under-resourced communities (Preferred)

Additional Information
Our comprehensive compensation package includes life insurance and long-term disability coverage provided by KIPP Nashville, voluntary medical and dental plans, in addition to retirement benefits and an annual salary increase. To establish equitable salary practices, the compensation package is derived from the regional KIPP Nashville Public Schools pay scale. This position is exempt and will follow a 10-month schedule.
