Job Description
The Opportunity
The Director of Teacher Development will play a critical role in developing, coaching, and creating the platform for excellent teachers to continue to choose KIPP Texas as the destination for a lifelong career in teaching. The Director of Teacher Development will Champion Distinguished and Master teacher development through innovative professional development, building rewards and recognition; coach Assistant Principals and School Leaders in supporting our top performing teachers; launch the inaugural KIPP Texas National Board Certification cohort; and ensure the Teacher Career Pathway is executed with fidelity, supporting teacher development and retention.
Role Responsibilities
- Develop the leadership and coaching capacity of instructional coaches
- Design professional development and other development opportunities for the most advanced teachers on the Teacher Career Pathway
- Build multi-year strategy for teacher’s in our most advanced stages of the Teacher Career Pathway
- Partner with School Leaders, APs, and other SSP teams to differentiate development for advanced teachers
- Case study and replicate best practices around fostering and creating the platform for teachers to thrive at KIPP Texas
- Monitor the execution of the TEA Teacher Incentive Allotment grant
- Design and launch the inaugural KIPP Texas NBCT cohort
- Partner with School Leaders, APs, and other campus leaders to shepherd teachers voice and expertise
- Manage the Manager(s) of the Teacher Career Pathway to continued excellent outcomes
- Support KIPP Texas in the pursuit of TEA Teacher Incentive Allotment application and subsequent management of grant
Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years exemplary teaching experience with outstanding student achievement results
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a full-time coaching role (assistant principal, dean of instruction, instructional coach, school leader, etc.) with demonstrated success in getting academic results through others
- Experience having been a excellent teacher or excellent teacher coach
- Knowledge of teacher development and supports, current educational trends, methods, research, and technology, professional development design, and program planning and implementation
- A commitment to promoting equity through the identification and removal of barriers, facilitation of learning, cultivation of community, and empowerment of people
- Experience leading engaging and effective professional development for adults
- Strong communication skills and follow-through
- Demonstrated initiative in prioritizing amidst complex needs and strategically planning to get results
- Flexibility and ability to multi-task within an ambiguous, fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment while also driving toward clarity and solutions
