Position Overview

The Director of Operations will be critical to the successful and efficient running of our school. As Director of Operations (DOO), you will co-lead a school alongside the Principal, partnering to ensure your students receive an exemplary education. The Director of Operations leads implementation and maintenance of clear operational systems that allow the school leaders and teachers to focus on students, families, and academics which enables a supportive school environment. The Director of Operations will therefore be an individual who embraces innovation and continuous improvement, is willing to get his/her hands dirty, and relishes the challenge of finding ways to work smarter and more cost-efficiently.

The Director of Operations will report to the Managing Director of School Operations and manage all members of the school’s operations team.  They will work closely and collaboratively with school leadership, teachers and the KIPP Albany Regional Team.  Lastly, the Director of Operations will manage relationships with outside vendors as it pertains to technology and facilities management.  The Director of Operations is responsible for creating and revising structures and systems that will support and improve upon existing routines.

Duties/Responsibilities

The Director of Operations oversees the operations and finance at the school and acts as the primary interface with the KIPP Albany School Support Team, independently addressing challenges and coordinating across schools when necessary.

School Culture

  • Builds a joyful and rigorous school culture;
  • Partners with the Principal in fostering consistency in academic and behavioral expectations;
  • Ensures that traditions and rituals that support the KIPP Forward mission are built and maintained, grade by grade, year to year.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Communicates regularly with families about their children's performance, school policies, trips, and events
  • Builds and fosters relationships with community leaders and organizations, including maintaining a robust database of community organizations

 Management 

  • Acts as a critical member of the school leadership team, along with the Principal and Assistant Principal
  • Ensures effective operational support of school strategy
  • Manages school operations, including correspondence with the Regional Team of KIPP Capital Region
  • Supervises the Office Manager, Operations Coordinator and/or Operations Manager,  Head Custodian, as well as manages relationships with outside vendors, helps address general office and administrative needs

Finance and Purchasing

  • Creates and oversees the school’s budget and finances
  • Oversees school-based purchasing, including the purchasing of technology equipment
  • Ensures adherence to school’s fiscal policy and procedures

Student Information and Reporting  | Student Recruitment

  • Manages student information system to generate report cards, progress reports, and schedules
  • Manages student recruitment, admissions applications, registration and waitlisted applicants

Logistics (school, trips and events)  | Facilities  | Technology

  • Plans and coordinates logistics for school events and activities as needed, including, Saturday school, parent meetings, concerts, and field trips
  • Manages and oversees the school’s facilities and physical condition
  • Oversees the maintenance of technology equipment, wireless network, and implementation of technology training

Qualifications

  • Strongly committed to the mission of KIPP and investment in our vision for being an anti-racist organization
  • Passionate commitment to improve the minds, characters, and lives of students both in and out of school
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University required
  • A minimum of five to eight years of experience is required, with at least two years managing a small team or multiple large projects, preferably in a charter or public school environment
  • Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.
  • Strong project management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and meticulous attention to detail. 
  • High level of comfort with financial oversight and budgetary tracking. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to think and act strategically
  • Team player with strong interpersonal/influence skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Pass Criminal Background Checks

Additional Information

The starting base salary range for this exempt position is $114,000 to $126,000.
