Job Description

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

Certification and Licensing

  • Audit and maintain certification and licensing information of certified or licensed professionals and paraprofessionals.
  • Maintain current information on SBEC rules, certification requirements and processes, etc.
  • Serve as a resource person to school leaders and employees on certification issues. 

Administer Leaves

  • Communicate with employees regarding their needs for leave
  • Lead meeting with employee and payroll regarding leave time, disability (if applicable), etc., explaining all aspects of the leave and its impact on payroll
  • Handle FMLA administration from employee’s initial notice of the need for leave to the return to work. This includes gathering and completing all required paperwork, determining leave eligibility, and designating leave as FMLA-qualifying
  • Notify managers of employee’s anticipated leave dates and any updates to return to work date
  • Facilitate other leaves, including administrative and other long-term, unpaid leaves
  • Maintain accurate leave records in ADP
  • Responsible for updating employee status when on leave and after returning

Performs other related job duties and training as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • English/Spanish bilingual preferred

  • Experience with data entry and use of an HRIS system, like ADP, PeopleSoft, SAP, or equivalent software preferred

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy required

  • Excellent organizational skills required

  • Articulate, professional demeanor with strong self-confidence and initiative

  • Ability to work well with all levels of the organization and with external contacts

  • Ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple priorities

  • Ability to interpret and disseminate information to individuals and groups

  • Understanding and belief that Human Resources is a service role within the organization 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)

 

Required Education and/or Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Two years of HR experience

Compensation and Benefits:

In addition to a competitive salary scale, a part of KIPP Texas’ competitive benefits options, KIPP offers all employees an $0 HMO plan for the employee only. Funding:

The HR Specialist, Certification Compliance will be funded directly from the Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief (ESSER) grants awarded by the Texas Education Agency under the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 (ESSER II) and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ESSER III). This position will be funded solely (100%) from the ESSER II and III allocation for administrative expenses through September 30, 2023, and may continue to be funded through September 30, 2024, depending upon the availability of ESSER grant funds. At the end of the grant period this position may be eliminated unless other sources of funds are secured to maintain this position or a similar position. The employee must sign this job description acknowledging receipt of the job description and signing their acknowledgement that this position is grant funded and is temporarily aligning with the terms of the grant period.
