Job Description

The Academic Specialist  is a regional position reporting to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. The Academic Specialist will help drive academic outcomes  by supporting the Vision for Academic Excellence by assisting the Director of C&I with the administration and monitoring of the instructional programs throughout the region. 

 

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Vision and Strategy

  • Manage the district’s implementation of the Response to Instruction and Intervention plan across the prekindergarten through the twelfth-grade continuum.

  • Partner with members of the Student Success and Support team along with Academics and Special Education to build and drive a regional academic strategy that ensures KIPP Delta students are college-ready by high school graduation.

  • Monitor the progress and support improved practices in KIPP Delta’s academic systems and routines by ensuring fidelity to and improving the accessibility of existing data systems including but not limited to:

    • TorshTalent

    • Illuminate or equivalent platform

    • LiveSchool

  • Manage the ongoing collection of data from various sources and for a variety of purposes to support the academic vision of the region. 

    • Analyze and synthesize data

    • Create excel sheets and charts/graphs

Teacher and Leader Support

  • Coordinate and lead RTI Committee meetings in coordination with campus leadership, Special Education, Student Success and Support Coordinators, and district support stakeholders to provide parents/guardians with pertinent student information and academic plans.

  • Manage other academic projects, as needed, including but not limited to professional development and regional and school-based events.

Other Responsibilities

  • All other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in an educational field or a closely related degree.

  • Minimum 5  years of classroom teaching experience working in a low-income school district.

  • Willingness to work toward certification in the science of reading. 

  • Possess an understanding of intervention services and Response to Intervention principles and processes.

  • Extensive experience collecting, organizing, and analyzing data

  • Demonstrated initiative in prioritizing complex needs and strategically planning to get results.

  • Flexibility and ability to multi-task within an ambiguous, fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment while also driving toward clarity and solutions

  • Strong organizational ability with impeccable attention to detail and strong communication skills and follow-through

  • Technologically proficient (or able to independently and quickly learn) Microsoft Office, Google for Education, Schoolzilla, Torsh, and similar educational platforms

  • Experience with strategic and long-term planning for a team

  • Ability to manage multiple projects

  • Willingness to work alongside instructional leaders and teachers to do whatever it takes to ensure KIPP Delta students grow and learn

  • Desire to work as part of a collaborative and entrepreneurial team

  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and outside agencies.

  • Must possess the following skill‐based competencies to satisfactorily perform the function of the position: analyzing; effective listening; facilitating meetings; guiding others; instructional techniques; managing projects/programs; monitoring activities; planning; problem-solving; and supervision.

  • Working knowledge of Common Core Standards and the pedagogical shifts they demand.

  • Travel required within the Arkansas Delta with time spent in schools.
