KIPP Metro Atlanta currently operates eleven KIPP schools including four primary schools, five middle schools, one K-8 school, and one high school, as well as the KIPP Forward program which supports students through college, career, and beyond. 

Job Description

The Director of Board Engagement & Communication serves as the primary liaison between KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools and the KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools Board of Directors.  The Director of Board Engagement & Communication is responsible for working with the CEO to promote effective Board governance and collaboration with the Board.  The Director of Board Engagement & Communication will work with the CEO to create the annual scope and sequence for Board Meetings and will be responsible for project managing all Board Meetings while serving as the Board Secretary.  Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Board Engagement & Communication will also provide critical thought partnership and execution related to all CEO communication to internal and external stakeholders.  The Director of Board Engagement & Communication will be able to work independently on projects, from conception to completion, and must be able to work under pressure at times to handle various activities and confidential matters with discretion.

As a Director of Board Engagement & Communication, your core responsibilities include:

    Board Strategy & Planning

    • In consultation with CEO, provide strategic thought partnership related to Board engagement, oversight, and support
    • Serve as a critical advisor to the CEO and committee liaisons on internal and external issues related to the Board, its governance, and its operations
    • Manage scope and sequence for Board Meetings and serve as project manager of Board Meetings ensuring that all necessary actions and deliverables are completed for effective Board Meetings
    • Serves as Board Secretary for KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools Board
    • Attend all Board and Committee meetings
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant statutes and regulations related to Board Member conduct
    • Serve as the staff committee lead for the Committee on Directors, managing meeting schedule and working with Committee Chair to drive Committee work

    Administrative Support

    • Coordinate and maintain Board and Committee Meeting schedule
    • Ensure timely preparation of materials and communication for all Board and Committee Meetings
    • Coordinate and collect all pre-reading materials and collateral for Board Meetings
    • Coordinate all logistics related to Board Meetings, including location, materials, technology, and food
    • Ensure timely updates of Board materials on the regional website
    • Maintain Board Dashboard, keeping contact information up to date and available
    • Serve as an initial point of contact for Board Members

    Communication Support

    • In collaboration with CEO, create strategic communications plan to ensure CEO vision is amplified and disseminated across stakeholder groups
    • Provide critical thought partnership to CEO related to key messaging opportunities for internal and external communication
    • Support with the drafting and finalization of all urgent and scheduled CEO communication, to both internal and external stakeholders
    • Communicate directly, and on behalf of the CEO, with Board members, donors, KIPP Foundation staff and others, on matters related to CEO’s programmatic initiatives
    • Ensure that all communications from CEO align to mission, vision, values and brand guidelines

    Qualifications

    •  
    • Bachelor’s Degree required
      • Advanced degree preferred
    • Minimum 5 years full-time related experience including time work with or supporting Boards of Directors, preferably in a non-profit organization
    • Event planning and event management experience
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and G-Suite (Docs, Sheets and Slides) required
    • Excellent written, oral, and verbal communication skills with an ability to tailor communications appropriately to audiences
    • Detail-oriented with an ability to work independently
    • Effective time management with an ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, demanding work environment
    • Exceptional work ethic and flexibility to work long hours, when needed
    • Professional, friendly, and adaptable personality that works well with others and is open to feedback
