Job Description

The School Health Assistant provides direct services to meet the needs of the scholars and staff on campus under the supervision of the Director of Operations.

Key Responsibilities

Health Services:

  1. Provide direct care utilizing school health protocols and care plans established by scholar's physician.
  2.  Administer medication to scholars according to board policy and district procedures.
  3. Collaborate with campus school leader, school counselor, teachers, parents, food service, and other staff regarding the health needs of the general population and those scholars with identified health conditions.
  4. Communicate with parents regarding individual scholars as directed by KIPP OKC protocols.
  5. Collaborate with other professionals regarding implementation of health-related Individual Education Plan (IEP) items.
  6. Educate faculty or staff as needed on health-related topics as directed by the school Director of Operations

Clerical:

  1. Maintain accurate scholar health records, including immunization records, medication administration records, and individual scholar treatment records.
  2. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including accurate, updated health records on all scholars.

Compliance:

  1. Comply with all Federal, State, District and Campus routines and regulations.
  2. Maintain confidentiality.

Professional Development:

  1. Maintain certification in CPR, First Aid, vision and hearing screening.
  2. Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  1. Completion/Graduation from undergraduate college or university (preferred)
  2. Certificate from a pre-nursing or nursing program, CNA or Health Aid

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  1. Knowledge of basic first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR /First Aid/Healthcare Provider)
  2. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  3. Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
  4. Ability to use personal computer and software to enter data and do word processing
  5. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
  6. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Experience:

  1. One year experience in health-related position, including contact with school-age children
