Here’s what you need to know:       

We’re looking for behavior specialists for the current school year! Our high school is seeking awe-inspiring behavior specialists to guide our students as they climb the mountain to college and beyond. Our behavior specialists are dynamic leaders both in and outside of their classroom. They love students, working with families and the community they serve. 

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

We have behavior specialists on two teams (Special Education Team and Culture Team), and their responsibilities are different.

Behavior Specialist on the Special Education Team:

  • Provide assistance with individualized programmed materials - specifically with students who need additional behavior support.
  • Maintain appropriate records and daily/weekly tracking sheets.
  • Assist with progress monitoring for individualized education plans.
  • Assist in education demonstrations, if necessary. 
  • Respond to, de-escalate, and intervene in student conflicts and altercations
  • Be a good TEAMmate – work closely with other school staff to reinforce expectations for all students. 

Behavior Specialist on the Culture Team:

  • Support with school-wide systems including arrival, dismissal, lunch, and activity block/detention.
  • Uphold excellent culture in the hallways, particularly during transitions.
  • Support deans in responding to culture team requests from teachers.
  • Respond to, de-escalate, and intervene in student conflicts and altercations.
  • Supervise student consequences and restorative spaces, e.g. after-school reflection and ISS.
  • Maintain appropriate records and tracking of student behavior in DeansList.
  • Assist the Dean/Assistant Dean of Students in the organization and implementation of school-wide initiatives and events.
  • Research, recommend, develop, and implement new initiatives that strengthen student success.
  • Provide orientation for new students and make them familiar with behavioral norms.
  • Motivate students to participate in various social and cultural activities run by the school.

Qualifications

Must Haves

  • Have a minimum of 48 semester hours from an accredited institution. 
  • ABS training.
  • Experience working with kids who need behavior support.
  • Hold high expectations for each student. 
  • Exhibit positive rapport with students. 
  • HS Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to intervene in physical altercations.

  • Have the ability to work as an effective member of a team to address the needs of children.
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively with scholars, staff and parents.
  • Have the ability to build positive relationships with scholars, staff, and parents.
