Job Description

The Data Analyst (DA) supports the processes and tools that empower regional analysis of key performance indicators (tracking, collection, storage, and analysis of data).

The DA will primarily maintain and expand the region’s data infrastructure to support operational decision-making with robust analytics tools. This includes managing the regional data warehouse and the pipelines that move data between systems. In addition, the DA provides robust data analysis by building dashboards, generating cyclical and ad-hoc reports, and maintaining a user-friendly central access point. 

The ideal candidate for this position will have a deep passion for racial justice and equity for all children and thrive on helping people. This means that a candidate understands that every data point is a child, and they keep a lens on mitigating bias and stereotypes. Additionally, the candidate is comfortable spending long periods of time working independently and in front of the computer screen but can be called upon to effectively present data to a variety of audiences.

The role is a full-time, manager-level role that reports to the Regional Director of Operations on the shared services team and is part of the larger operations team that supports schools. As a member of the shared services team, this individual would be responsible for doing whatever it takes to ensure that students develop the knowledge, skills, and character strengths they need to succeed throughout their education and in the competitive world beyond. This position is year-round and performs duties as assigned by their manager. Typical hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but can vary based on role and season.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Infrastructure Management

  • Maintain and troubleshoot the integrity of data linkages between data source systems and data warehouse
  • Develop and maintain documentation such as a data dictionary that describes the contents, formats, and structure of the data warehouse and the relationship between its elements
  • Perform maintenance and support tasks on the central reporting platform, Racetrack, hosted on Google Sites.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Partner with regional and school operations staff to conduct data quality audits to ensure accurate and complete data is warehoused through student information and other data systems
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of all regionally standardized data sources and systems, being constantly aware of new updates and incorporating changes into analytical approaches and data visualizations
  • Seek feedback from teammates and end-users to improve the product

Data Analysis

  • Collaborate with the Data & Assessment Systems Manager to define regional data analysis and reporting plan and deliverables, school-facing data support, academic data and norms on data practices
  • Conduct descriptive analysis on outputs from KIPP Jacksonville’s student information system, student assessments, teacher evaluations, and other organizational data platforms
  • Design, implement and monitor the use of real-time data reports and Tableau dashboards to support strategic decisions at the regional and school level
  • Develop predictive and statistical models with student data to support the academics, operations, and student support teams in allocating resources efficiently and making informed programmatic decisions
  • Translate data into relevant insights and implications and support stakeholders in interpreting findings
  • Regularly monitor key metrics and report significant changes or trends

Data Culture or Data Strategy

  • Seek opportunities to increase stakeholder ability to use data
  • Help to plan for and lead the training of school and regional staff on using data systems and interpreting data reports
  • Assist with mentoring school and organizational leaders on using data to improve instructional planning and drive student achievement
  • Serve as expert and contributing member of cross-functional teams on topics such as: best practices for collecting and storing data, research design, using data insights to drive planning and decision-making, turning data into impactful stories, etc.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited institution in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, or equivalent field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience writing and optimizing SQL queries
  • Experience with relational databases, data modeling, database design, implementation, and management.
  • Experience building data visualizations, dashboards, and other decision-making tools using industry-recognized BI tools, such as  Tableau (preferred), Looker, and Microsoft Power BI.
  • Proven ability to translate data sets for a wide variety of audiences.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn new cloud technologies for warehousing data.
  • Ability to compare and reconcile data from disparate sources and systems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree from accredited institution in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, or equivalent field
  • Analytics experience, preferably at a school system or non-profit for 2+ years
  • Familiarity with at least one of the following coding languages: Python (preferred), Java, Go, PowerShell, Node.js, or Ruby
  • Experience with any of the following systems is a definite plus

COMPENSATION*
Our compensation is very competitive and is commensurate with experience 

  • Compensation for this role will be between $50,000-$60,000
  • Free individual level health benefits, including medical, dental, and vision
