Job Description

Position Overview:

KIPP Nashville seeks a driven, collaborative, and forward-thinking Staff Accountant to ensure strong financial practices for our schools. By executing organization-wide accounting and reporting for the region and driving our grant funding, the Staff Accountant will promote the overall fiscal health of KIPP Nashville. The Staff Accountant will work alongside our Director of Grants Management and the Director of Finance and will build strong relationships with school-based Directors of Operations (DOOs). 

Responsibilities of the Staff Accountant include, but are not limited to:

  • Pledges/Grants Receivable Management
    • Oversee pledges receivable: Collaborate with the Development Team to ensure accurate and complete processing of donations; manage and provide oversight for revenue collections at schools
    • Manage grants receivable process: Independently prepare ESSER, CSP, Title I, and IDEA reimbursement requests monthly/quarterly
    • Annual grant budget revisions and communications with external stakeholders like Metro Nashville Public Schools, Public Charter School Commission, and the Tennessee Department of Education
    • Ensure proper allocation and expenditure of all federal and private grants, providing guidance to teams where needed
    • Ensure all grant submissions and reporting complies with local, state, and federal guidelines
    • Maintain a high-quality relationship with TDOE, MNPS, and PCSC
    • Monitor grant expenditures and ensure funds are drawn down by their liquidation deadlines
  • Financial Reporting and Compliance
    • Assist month-end accounting close activities including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and other reporting schedules and data analysis
    • Assist with year-end closing and audit requests
    • Maintain internal control policies and procedures to ensure timely month end close, compliance with state and federal regulations and appropriate reporting to stakeholders

 

  • Accounts Payable Management
    • Serve as principal contact regarding invoice and payment processing in the expense management system (Concur)
    • Monitor and follow up on invoices and credit card transactions through the approval process in our expense management system (Concur)
    • Process new vendor set up in both our expense management & Accounting Systems (Concur & Intacct)
    • Reconcile and verify vendor accounts, statements, and inquiries
    • Assist with preparation of year-end Form 1099s through our accounting system (Intacct)

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications & Characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 0 to 2 years related experience with proven accounting and Excel skills
  • Experience working with computerized financial accounting system, preferably Intacct and/or Concur
  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP Nashville’s mission and educational model
  • Results orientation with excellent follow-through
  • Ability to self-manage workflow and deliverables
  • Excellent communication skills with diverse constituents; clear writer and facilitator

Additional Information

Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience, and includes benefits. This position is non-exempt and will follow a 12-month administrative schedule.
